I am always on the lookout for bargain-bin gems. Not OLDies, but in the last two or 3 years that still have some pretty good graphics and gameplay.

Especially now, when we are WAITING for games and finding slim picking with only a FEW great new games; or else not wanting to drop $50 on something we might not like.

What are some recent gems you think might have been overlooked?

And BTW is 007 Nightfire worth the $7 I spent for it?

I think Dragon's Lair 3d was worth $8 (even if the controls were iffy, the nostalgia was nice)
And Unreal II is OK if little replay value for a fraction of it's original cost (I understand there is now some multi value)

I liked 007 Nightfire. The multiplay is a bit flakey but the single play is pretty good.
I would like to know of some good bargain bin games too cause I will have a bit of time to play soon.

Last time I was at Wally World, they had Quake 3 for $10 and I think they also had a combo pack of State of Emergency and Serious Sam Gold for $10. Quake 3 and Serious Sam Gold are definitely worth $10 apiece. :)

Into adventure games? I thought The Longest Journey was/is excellent. The No One Lives Forever series is also really great.

Mafia- $10 at Wal-Mart.

Still on my short list for best looking PC games to date(not FarCry good, but nothing else out is), and a simply killer game all around.

Beyond Good and Evil - $20.

:(

Game was amazing, and only a few months old. Everyone overlooked it so it flopped. Shame.

Sacrifice, Hostile Waters, Giants Citizen Kabuto. All excellent games, with tons of originality, that flopped for that very reason.

Whoa, lots of good suggestions. Thanks

I have to agree with AvPII . . . how is the expansion pack? (never tried it)

Is the $10 Mafia at Walmart the "full version"? I hesitated to buy it 'cause I wasn't sure . . .

oh, and add NOLF II . . . I saw it for $20 . . . as fun as the original - if shorter - with truly excellent graphics for (now) mid-level machines.

Thanks for the 'vote' for Nightfire - I will only be doing SP (as my 56K connection is slow).

And Sacrifice was too weird for me but I can see how people would like it; but Giant CK lacked the "anytime" save which bugged me.

I picked up Evolva for $5 last year. It's really interesting, but the full version isn't much better than the demo. Still, for $5, I guess you get more game to play.

Yep, I picked it up a few weeks ago at Walmart and it's the real deal.

If you're into a bit more serious wargaming - I picked up a use copy of Panzer Elite SE at EB Games yesterday for the whopping price of $2.99. The graphics are a bit outdated but it's supposedly the most realistic WW2 tank sim on the market.

Just so you know, Mafia also lacks the save anywhere feature but IMO it works very well the way they have it set up. One of the best games to hit in the last few years for the PC, in fact I wouldn't argue with someone who said it was the best(although I think there are a few others that give it a run).

No one mentioned EA's game "Black and White'. I will also second 'Alice'. Forget RTCW - you can download Enemy Territory for free. If you like strategy games you can find Zeus and Cleopatra for 10$ now as well. Soldier of Fortune II is only 9.99 at the local discounters, too. Don't forget to hit the FS/FT board, I've bough FS2004 there for cheap and also Rise of Nations for 20$ - you can get some gaming goodness there.

I wouldn't play that game if someone paid me.

If you get Shogun: Total War, make sure you get the Warlord Edition. You can't heal your units in the original edition and it's a real pain in the butt.

To each their own, I found it fun along with creature isle expansion.

Yes, it's a great game. I got it about a month ago and spent about a week playing before I got to the end.
Great deal for $10.

Walmart also had Max Payne for $10.

My only complaints about Mafia are that there is far too much boring driving from place to place and your partners are idiots who like to run full speed ahead into a crowd of enemy gangsters and get themselves killed. There was actually one level where I spent about 20 minutes moving cars around just to set it up so my partners would be trapped so I could complete the mission without them getting themselves killed.

But don't get the wrong impression. It is a really great game. One of my favorites. All the positives far outweigh those two minor irritations I had.

area 51 and house of the dead II are great if you have act labs' PC light gun.
