This has every clue in the book indicating the auction is a fraud:

zero feedback lister
unverifyable claims about items provenance
claim that proof of claims will be provided with watch
grainy pictures of item that is obviously not appropriate to the description

FYI - Buzz Aldrin and most Apollo astronaut's wore Omega Speedmasters. This is a military issue watch from approximately the right time period, but that is as close to the moon as it ever got.

What's funny is that if it was Buzz Aldrin's moon watch, the lister could theoretically be arrested. The watch disappeared on its way to the Smithsonian....

At least the lister takes paypal!

even if it really was Buzz Aldrin's watch, for $5000 you can buy a much better watch that also looks much cooler. excuse me for saying this but, assuming that really is a picture of Buzz Aldrin's watch, that watch looks pretty cheap and definitely not worth $5k.

Apart from the fact that it is probably not authentic, I don't think the point is to buy a nice watch for $5000. I think the point is to obtain a collector's item/"piece of history". Otherwise, you'd drop the 5K on a Tag, Rolex, Omega or something.

It could have been a $5 timex. If it actually was worn on the moon, you would not have a hard time finding a collector to pay $5k for it.

If you are looking for a "better and cooler" watch, you probably aren't interested in collector's items...

Ya think?

My favorite part is the promise that "Proper documentation will be provided." I am thinking a hand written note on a cocktail napkin saying "this is Buzz Aldrin's watch"...

I believe David Scott actually did wear a Waltham on the moon, because the crystal had fallen off his Omega Speedmaster, but my understanding is that it was a Waltham chronograph.
