Should I get the Duron chip? I was on pricewatch.com and saw some places selling barebones for around $130-$150
for a Duron 900Mhz system. is it worth getting or should I go with the Athlon 266bus? Stupid question, but speed isn't
my concern. I currently have a laptop with a PIII-500 chip, and it runs fine for me.

The durons run really well. If you are going to do lots of gaming, go with a faster and slightly more expensive athlon with the 266 bus. If you just want a decent computer that can run pretty much every program (and run them well) for cheap, then go for it. I am buying a duron 900 to use in my linux box because they are cheap and fast. You said speed is not your concern, so I say go for it, and you can't beat that price. this is all, of course, IMHO

P.S. Just please don't buy a *ntel celery processor, I would never be able to talk to you again if you did :)

Yea, I just want to use this system for linux and windows 2k server. I'm learning exchange and installing apache and stuff.
I already have two other systems along with my laptop, but the last time i tried to learn exchange, things didn't work out.
Maybe I'll have this new system dual boot with linux and win2k server as the pdc, and my other system as the mail server,
and the crappy system run bsd or something.

it should be quicker than my k6-500 right? i thought about keeping it and just updating the HD and adding some new stuff to it.

it will be quite a bit faster than the K6-500. I ran a AMD K6-3 450 for a while and then tried my friends duron 800, and the difference was very noticable. and with the druon being so cheap..... can't go wrong. Of course, now that I have said this, you will run into all kinds of problems, sorry to jinx you. ;) ciao
