Barcode stickers w/ repeating numbers found in books

A few years ago I found a barcode sticker with the number 80808 08080 in a book. Yesterday I found one with the number 79797 97979 in another book. Also, this past summer I found one attached to a book, but I don't think it had a pattern to the number, and I can't remember where I put it.

barcodes with the books they came in

back of the stickers

As you can see, they are electronic (RFID?)

Anyways, I didn't find much through google, but people have found the 79 sticker in several books.

So I was just wondering if anyone else has come across these things before.

Most of the books I've bought from Barnes & Noble B&M outlets have had those RFID tags in them. I was thinking that they were anti-shoplifting devices.

If I found one of those I would immediately make myself an aluminum foil hat and sit cross legged inside a pyramid to ward off the evil alien spirits.

I've found them on things I buy all the time.
Never paid much attention to the number -- or if it's a repeating number -- but I've always peeled them off and thrown them away. I think those big stickers are different than the rfid people talk about. (but I may be wrong)

Big Brother is going to have to do better than that to track Me

The whole rfid thing freaks me out... and the tracking chips could be put anywhere, and even woven into clothing, or embedded into your car, etc.
