I have a p4 with an ide drive...I want to upgrade my machine either by building a clone computer or gettting a new dell

The problem is how can I get the os and software off of the IDE harddrive to serial drive wiy=thout loseing anything?

i forgot to mentioon that it is a barcode machine for shipping labels I dont want comma seperated files I want to pull the OS and Software off of the ide machine to a serial drive machine,

I tried a few tecniques but ccan onlky get comma seperated text files I cant get the os or apps that are stored on the p4

Why not just Clone the existing hard drive to a new (I presume you meant SATA) SATA drive ?

What OS are we talking about here? And just for clarity, both PATA and SATA are IDE drives, so avoid using IDE when you mean PATA.
