I was watching TV last night and did you hear them talk about her family?

Husband...former President
GW Bush...Running for President
Other Son...Governor of State

I guess what they say is true! "Behind every great man is an even greater woman!" ;)

I have come to the conclusion that this is mostly true. Reason being that when we men meet a truly fantastic woman, we are driven to succeed so that we do not lose her to someone else. Az fantastic woman is one who supports her husband, stands by him through the good times as well as ther bad, shows him respect, (this does not mean she is submissive)and listens to him as a friend as well. A true woman is a lover, confidant, friend, debater, companion, and all around person. This also goes for him as well. When a couple works together, great things can happen.

I liked the advice that one voter gave Bush, told him to continue to listen to his mother.

I met Barbara Bush once, she came into the Barnes & Noble where I worked. She had like 4 secret service agents with her. I never realized until I was up close how old she is.

If Barbara Bush's best accomplishments were those of begetting her family, that would be pretty pathetic. Anyone who is personally defined by the accomplishments of family members is sad. Luckily she's actually been involved in a lot of charitable and humanitarian efforts, esp in the area of literacy.

Of course as a first lady if she didn't do any humanitarian work, you'd have to wonder what the heck was up. Bush Jrs are riding daddy's coattails, and would have had to try not to get somewhere (i.e. similar case Kennedys) . The father is impressive, I grant that. Impressive enough that his kids can feed off his greatness for who knows how long. My $0.02

Congratulations, you just slammed motherhood as being pathetic.

What should I do guys, let the ladies around here know who's balls to cut off next? Or do I give him a chance to apologize first?

All he's saying is that basking in the shadow of ones relatives acheivements, doesn't necessarily mean that one has acheived anything oneself.

Well you know what I mean.

Raspewtin doesn't have kids, or doesn't seem like it. I don't either, but my mom said it makes her feel most proud when she realizes what my siblings and I have accomplished and will accomplish in the future. Many mothers, maybe not define, but feel accomplished and proud when their children succeed; it's a reflection back on her how they turned out. Like her politics or not, she raised a successful family. She's not basking, but she has a right to be proud that she raised children who became successful and prosperous.

Raspewtin:

With all due respect, man, being a mother is the HIGHEST calling. Period. Full Stop.

Do you get it?

Nothing is more important for preservation of the species and our emotional well being.

You had a mother. Think about it. Digest it. Move on.

Love and Peace!

FettsBabe:

I adore Barbara Bush. She is a fantastic lady. Unfortunately, she married beneath her. :p

Jeb Bush is her best kid by a wide margin. W is an airhead.

No one should underestimate the value of the women behind the scenes. My wife has had an enormous influence on me and the things I've done. I'm sure almost every man could say the same thing. Unfortunately, being the support person is rarely a glamorous position. Most wives and mothers get no credit for their accomplishments. They do it out of love-probably the best reason to do anything!

I would address Raspewtin but I believe that it has been handled appropriately!.;)

As for Babara Bush, Sure she's great. Most mothers are! I guess if your going to live vicariously through your family then having 2 sons who are govenors, one of which may be president and allready has a place in history, and having your husband be a Vice President and a president is the best way to do it.

I remember when George Bush was President, when visiting other countries people always asked why he was accompanied by his mother instead of his wife.;)

I've always had a great deal of respect for Barbara Bush. I think she's an intelligent, charming and strong woman. I think she is very caring, open and honest, what you see is what you get.

As far as being a mother is concerned on top of being the most important job, it's also the most underated, underpaid and underappreciated job on Earth.

The world would be a better place if more people had her character.

I find it highly amusing that used to a woman's entire roll was as a wife and a mother ... and thats how she was supposed to see her worth ... and now here people are critisizing a very good woman for living vicariously through her sons (and daughter). If you don't think that being a mother is the most important job in the world ... look at all the children whose lives have been screwed up by neglectful or abusive or alcoholic mothers. Look where they are right now ... sure there are a few have risen above the starts they had ... but it is soooooo rare. No matter what careers I will have in the future, if I am so blessed as to become a mother you will be guaranteed that I will consider that my most important roll as a woman. And whether that is looked down upon by others .. I don't really care. My children will know they are the most important thing to me, over any job.

BoberFett (et al)

lol. I wasn't slamming motherhood. (The threat was amusing though; I'm glad you gave me a chance of response before castration :) ). What's a shame is that motherhood is defined by you as having a mother be just a vessel through which her family achieves. A mother accomplishes important stuff everyday, but what society values as important accomplishments creates the sense that what they do day-to-day is unimportant, which sucks. So they're forced to feel the best thing about them is stuff is the accomplishments of others whose actions are valued by society. This is rediculous, and some people act like their showing respect to women by doing this. If you still don't get it, read Toni Morrison's Beloved.

Until you actually respect mothers as people who have value and worth as people and not mainly as your mother, it's YOU who slams mothers and keeps them down. The things they do everyday are at least as important if not more so than what is traditionally conisidered important in society

Rasp - I don't think you understand the meaning of my post. It was meant to be funny as well as truthful. She's a great lady not only for her family, but for what she has done as a person.

Sorry if I misinterpreted what you were saying. Some people also didn't seem to understand my post, so I probably also should have been clearer what I was saying.
