I opened up the can and noticed that unlike Snow's the clams looked rather white and clear. There was also a considerable amount of actual clam in the can. The liquid, I don't know...looked "clean", I guess?

So I get why it commands a premium. Also realized it doesn't contain the usual preservatives.

Bar Harbor has good herring too. Never had the clams.
Local Safeway is the only supplier at the moment, but other stores had supplied their items in the past; maybe they just didn't sell because of the cheaper competition. It does command a premium over the cheap Snow's, but the Snow has phosphate salts, which can throw the balance of calcium and phosphorous in the body out of whack, and cause calcium to go out of the bones.

I'll sample the herring, but I doubt I'll like it because smoked foods usually don't jive with me..
