bar district in Paris

Going to Paris for next weekend and was wondering where the best bars and stuff were located so I can get a hostel close by. Probably won't go to clubs since many are hard to get in and expensive, more just drinking and hanging out. Oh and if anyone knows a good hostel or cheap hotel that'll be nice.

(Can we try to keep it civil? French bashing has gotten extermly old)

Forget the bars in Paris (or anywhere else in France for that matter). They are really seedy.

Find some British or Irish pubs. I've been to a few but I don't recall the addresses off-hand.
