Am I correct that it's really only a Wisconsin thing?

You play with 5 dice and a leather cup that shaped like a tumbler drink glass. The bartender plays and, if he/she loses, everyone playing wins a free shot.

It can be really expensive if a lot of people are playing and you lose, or it can be very cheap if you always win. Either way you'll get drunk pretty fast. :)

Never seen that played here in OR. The bartenders are usually busy serving customers instead of playing games. :p

Nah, I've seen it in several states. USUALLY in neighborhood bars as compared to "cocktail lounges" or restaurant bars though

Midwestern in origin for sure.VERY populare here in WI at your local taverns and the like.

In fact we used to play this at my grandpa's basement bar with him when I was little. We'd all get shots of soda etc if we won. When he passed, I got his tumbler and dice (super old). When my brother finsihed remodeling his basement to emulate a bar (top notch "conversion here folks... it's amazing and cost more than my house sadly) I gifted the tumbler and dice to him. We still play to this day :)

It's pretty common here to have a "Dice Pot" where you pay $1 for a dice roll. Basically if you get Yahtzee on your roll you get the pot.

Note: Dice games are illegal in MN bars.

Definately here in WI. Ship, Captain, and Crew is my favorite.

Did play in Chicago too.

Truly the greatest Wisconsin bar innovation is the combination bar and tool/surplus store. A good redneck bar perfectly and seamlessly mated with a surplus store that sells junk Chinese tools and stuff that would make Big Lots blush. All the tools get prettier at closin' time.

I've seen it from Calif. to Conn. it is def not just a Midwestern game and I doubt seriously that it originated there. The same goes for Cribbage. Both of these are played extensively in the Navys of the world.
