Bar Code reader...where to get a cheap one?

I found some freeware software for DVD collection tracking and it supports bar code to make entry easier.

I found one at CompUSA but it's > $100...isn't there one out there for like $20?
 
Radio Shack CueCat = free is they still give them away. If not I'm sure you could find one on the FS/FT forums for really cheap.
 
Ditto the CueCat they were giving them away everywhere a year or so ago, and as far as I can tell, your purpose was about the only thing they were useful for. I did a quick check on ebay.... there are dozens.... hundreds... for sale for under 2 or 3 bucks.
 
haha yeah the cuecat that multimillion dollar advertising scheme DISASTER. I bet heads rolled for that one. Nice that those little things are actually good for something useful! Mine's in a box somewhere.

If you do get the CueCat.. IIRC there was an issue with it tracking the things you scan.. can be corrected thru either software use or hardware mod the the scanner.

hmm...i'll have to re-search. 1st page of hits I saw on eBay were for the bigger dollar ones.

I'll check out the CueCat. Free is good! 😀
 
I _think_ I can still get some free CueCats from Radio Shack and can ship 'em to you guys for a few bucks.

You can scan ANYTHING from Tampon boxes to Pepsi bottles to a bottle of mustard to CD's to DVD's, etc.

It's very easy to remove the encryption, & then you don't need any special software to use it.

I have a CueCat laying around, never imagined it would be of use to anyone. Very silly promotion by Radio Shack I think. Anyways, if anyone wants it, pay me shipping for it.
