Wow, I really thought this would've hit 20 pages by now. Anyways, I like the "other deals" addition to the forums. Really, when I think of Anandtech, I *DO* think of computer hardware and the other deals are just a little extra bonus (IN SOME CASES).

I just wonder if we start crapping all the "Intel" hot deals and flaming those who like Intel will they ban deals on Intel products? Now I also wonder if a lot of folks started crapping any thread that had to do with gay/lesbian issues would they ban any threads on those issues? the answer to those two questions is more than likely - NO! Then why ban hot deals on religious items? Because it is safe. No manufacturer to irritate. No free speech issue for religion. Come on guys step up to the plate and send the bad little boys and girls home for a while. Don't punish the many for the few!

It just became disorderly, like the BB pricing errors. I doubt the Anandtech mods could care less if you want to slaughter a cow in the name of Oz as long as it is orderly and doesn't lead to chaos and possible perpetual whining.

It usuall y goes:

1. Somebody posts something remotely religeous
2. Some imbicile says something condescending about every religeon known to man in an effort to make up for his small penis.

The guy with the small penis should be gang tackled, not ban religeous content. IMO

When I first saw that religious Hot Deals are being temporarily banned, my thought was--good, I never read those posts anyway. Then I began reading the responses, and I feel differently than my initial reaction.

I applaud the mods for soliciting comments from the community. By assessing the comments, hopefully, the community will be better served.

Although I don't have an interest in religious Hot Deals, I agree with those who argue that the thread crappers win by getting the topic banned, and I think that is unfair. My general feeling in all threads, is that if you don't have something constructive to add, then keep quiet. I respect differences of opinion, and some comments are funny, but some comments are made just to inflame.

I also agree with those who point out that a free Bible is not a Hot deal. Since it is easy to find sources for a free Bible, we have to wonder what is the motivation behind the post. There are existing rules that would support the idea that the thread be locked or the member (after being warned) be banned.

Since referral links and posts for self-gain are not allowed in Hot Deals, if someone is posting a religious Hot Deal for the purpose of evangelizing a religious cause, then that should not be allowed. However, there can be legitimate deals available for people who purchase religious items, like books, music, jewelry or holiday items.

Unfortunately, there is no easy answer here. The mods have the tools at their disposal to remove those who abuse the rules, whatever side of the fence they may be on.

Well, I would say it's like everywhere else you can think of. Nothing is off limits until someone finds it offending. Unfortunately Satan visits AT too often. Even the Lord of Lies has rights!!! ;)

And despite the fact that the crappers would now be living a nightmare if a lot of people far brighter and braver than they didn't fight and die to create a nation based on tolerance

actually many of our founding fathers were not christian. I believe a few were Deist, and some atheist.... Which isnt a big deal, but please dont make it sound like tolerance is a trait found only in christians... :)

<< BigDoggie, I'd take that example a little differently... I'd say that the police were cordoning off the park until it was assured that the situation was under control. . >>

How could this be the same? They wouldn't cordon off the park to just one group or type of people now would they? :)

The simple fact is that whatever the ops of the board want to do they pretty much can and they should be able to. You can't make everyone happy. I for one think the banning of the posts is wrong and will just give crappers more poop to shoot with. Now I guess we just have to get a hot deal on toilet paper and hope the things we come looking for isn't singled out next....

wow, just thought of this...

Does this mean all CHRISTMAS item posts are banned too ? Along with all items relating to HANUKKAH and others? I know christmas is pretty much just commercialism now, but non the less I think it would fall under the ban..

just my .02 again.... (at this rate I will be able to buy a cup of coffee with this)

I am in agreement with boa (and silentrunning)...

<< SilentRunning's idea of 2 hot deals threads is really great. >>

Why not? I really come here for deals on computer HW/SW, this is what anand is all about imho. Rather than punish the ones who originate the threads (I for one think a free book is a hot deal whether or not you agree with it's content) punish the ones who can't keep their mouths shut or their keyboards silent.

This wouldn't bother me except I see thread crapping going on all the time, but the threads that talk about "Deals" on Phoebe modems for a buck, and offshore NICs for 50 cents, then why not ban those types of threads?

nuff said. I won't be back to this thread as I look like I am beginning to crap.

WageSlave, where did you get from the above post that "tolerance is a trait found only in Christians"?

That's twice you've twisted posts in this thread to show your contempt for Christians.

Why don't you give it a rest?

Huh? First, where does the above comment say that all atheists are bigots and second, where is the derision of atheism?

Huh?

It is Implied...

its like saying ' this is the fault of the gay black jew bigots ' why does it matter if they are gay black jews? the point is they are bigots and putting a label in front of the bigot part definitley implies that being a part of that group has contributed to your being a bigot.

It would be just as effective to say 'this is all the fault of those bigots'

The derision of atheism is present in the construction of the 'atheist bigot' phrase, and in the tone of the post.

Who is twising posts now? WHERE exactly did I say that I have contempt or any type of malice for christians? I havent said one word condemning christianity in any way. Both of the posts I quoted were obviously emotionally charged, and if you read between the lines, you might see that. Perhaps I interpretted them incorrectly, just as you obviously have misinterpretted my replies. There is no contempt coming from me, other than a contempt for intolerance.

So how about you give your intolerance rest?

Uhh... here:

<< Which isnt a big deal, but please dont make it sound like tolerance is a trait found only in christians... :) >>

Which is the point he was referring to. You address a number of other points, but he specifically referred to this one.

Am I missing something? I think I said before that I felt that statement IMPLIED that the poster felt tolerance was based on being christian... If I am wrong, and that is NOT what the poster was implying..... GREAT! :) So whats the problem?

<< I'm fairly sure that neither Russ nor Chadder007 intended to say that all atheists are bigots. >>

Correct. I'm referring to those atheists who cannot resist the compulsion to attack in any thread that hints of God. Even if their post is wildly off topic and completely unrelated to the subject matter, they just have to get their shot in. That is a bigot.

Here is a perfect example from this thread:

<< it is good to see that you guys are not keyboarding in tongues and have survived the handling of serpents at tonights services!!! Your faith is strong!! I am dissapointed to see that several of the elderly people left the services with some of their Social Security checks still in their possession. No worry, there will soon be a mailing which will get that final dollar from them!!!!

The above was written by a scared little Child Atheist Bigot with stones the size of mustard seeds. He cowers in fear in a darkened corner, his pimply face twisted and rotting from sleeping on soiled sheets, and strikes in the only gutless way he knows how, by hiding behind his keyboard and taking potshots at people and beliefs about which he knows nothing. That is bigotry. He is a punk.

As for the ridiculous argument that those of Faith are just as bad, it is NEVER they who start the fight, it is always the atheist that draws first blood. Just review any thread that discusses religion, ANY. You will not find even a single example where a Christian attacked an atheist without provocation. NONE. In every single case is was a bigoted atheist who jumps in to denigrate the Christian. Then, and only then, are they responded to, sometimes in kind.

EDIT: And, right on cue, one of our resident atheist bigots barfs up a perfect example. Note from whom the very first response in that thread came and the tone of said response.

WageSlave, here's a comment by Russ:

<< You can thank the atheist bigots who cannot pass up any opportunity to attack anyone and anything that even hints at Christianity. >>

And here's your response:

<< Thats a pretty offensive comment by the way. Some atheists are bigots, some christians are bigots, but your comment isnt any better than what the flamers do in hot deals. You are deriding them because of their beliefs, and thats just as disrespectful and immature as their bahavior. >>

Where in Russ' comment does he say that all atheists are bigots, and where does he deride atheism.

Here's the second one:

<< And despite the fact that the crappers would now be living a nightmare if a lot of people far brighter and braver than they didn't fight and die to create a nation based on tolerance. >>

Your response:

<< actually many of our founding fathers were not christian. I believe a few were Deist, and some atheist.... Which isnt a big deal, but please dont make it sound like tolerance is a trait found only in christians... :) >>

Where does the post say anything about Christians and where does it imply that tolerance is a trait found only in Christians?

<< Well, I for one have really enjoyed my time visiting the forums here at Anandtech, and while I don't normally get on my soapbox, I think I will for this one. Why are we punishing people that are simply trying to post hot deals? It's a hot deals forum, for goodness sake, and I want to know what those hot deals are for every kind of merchandise out there. It almost makes me want to suggest that all religious people complain about some other kind of item. I'm not saying that, but just realize the precedent that is being set here. >>

Hey, that is GREAT!!! I'm going to post my findings on where to get your FREE swastikas! Hey, that is an AWESOME deal, right?! Now if I have ANY thread crappers, I'm going to call them juvenile idiotic bigots! PLEASE, are you going to f#@king tell me you guys will look at that thread and say, "hey, this guy is not trying to promote anything. He is just posting a good deal for everyone's benefit." And of course I can always turn things around and call the thread crapper the "bad guy"...

<< ... it is NEVER they who start the fight, it is always the atheist that draws first blood. >>

There is A LOT of hatred toward religion and for VERY good reasons. Post you f%%king religious "HOT DEALS" is a Christian forum for Christ's sake!! ;) Just like you don't want to hear about swastikas (and don't pretend you don't mind), people HATE seeing religious sh!t posted on a NON-religious forums (Anandtech). I don't care where in Anandtech it is and what it's about!

I didn't read all the posts, so this may have been said already:

If there are hot deals on religious materials, then they should be allowed to post. If someone feels the need to trash religion, bring it to OT....

As far as an atheist 'starting it' goes, I dont honestly see as how that matters.... I dont respect rudeness, wether it comes before or after the first insult... I dont see it as being ok to be rude, and respond with flames just because someone else did it first. I simply dont think 'well he did it too' is a good justification. I see DO so an atheist bigot starting something in that thread, but I also see some christian bigots responding in kind. A bigot is a bigot no matter who throws the first hurtful phrase. :)

I hope this all gets resolved soon however. I do think that the mods are a bit too tolerant of these immature trolls, wether they are atheist, christian, muslim, etc. etc.

The pissing contests are getting old, and it seems that the people that participate in these big flame was should be banned wether they 'started it' or not. I dont mean throw out people that try to calmly bring peace to a thread like that, but all those who become rude and demeaning in their comments. I suppose its like a bar fight... they dont care who started it, if you were being a jack@ss and fighting, your going to get tossed out.
