banner and pop-up blocker!!!

Recommendations??? I already use Webwasher for Win2K and LINUX but need one that works with WinXP. I've tried Pop-up Stopper but want one that will annihilate banner ads as well.

I tried it for two days seems to work with XP beta.

BTW: The issue is not just XP beta, but IE6. My favorite Cookie PAL, and others don't work due to changes from I.E5.5 to I.E6, and that includes I.E6 on Win98SE.

I'm using Webwasher on Win2k while using IE6. I've also tried Adsubtract and Popup Stopper with success on the same box.

on WinXP, only Pop-up Stopper works. Webwasher crashes the system when I open up IE and try to surf.

Webwasher works great when I'm using Mandrake LINUX.

Hmmm.... strange, I had XP running a couple of weeks ago and seem to remember having WebWasher running on it without any problems. Then again, that could just be my memory not working right, maybe I wasn't running it on XP.

Thats what I'm afraid of...the AOL friendly OS. I don't want my control panel apps hidden! I need to be able to uninstall stuff and tweak my hardware!

Someone assured me that the &quot;AOL treatment&quot; CAN be turned off, and it will revert to Win2K style desktop. For XP, they should make it so when you install it, the account it creates is a &quot;user&quot; account, with the ability to create an &quot;administrator&quot; account &quot;for advanced users ONLY&quot;. The &quot;advanced users&quot; part would scare off most of the curious people, and then the administrator account could have all of the newbie features turned off, and be displaying all files w/ extensions as default.

They should allow that system recovery feature to be turned off as well...I've never installed ME, so I don't know how it works, but it's got to be cloning hte OS somewhere. At the very least, make it possible to stick a CDRW in the burner and have the OS cloned to it nightly. I'd hate having to have a 3gb windows directory, just cause it feels a need to save a copy of itself every day.

Wow, I went off on a tangent there. Wait for WinXP to be more widespread, then WebWasher should update with a version for everyone. Thats just one of the problems with running a Beta OS.

Don't know about win xp but atguard is what I use under win 2k and I would highly recomend trying it.

I use POW! from www.analogx.com for pop-ups cuz they really suck but why do you need you block banner ad's? I mean you either get an ad or a big grey block right? This is they way sites like AT stay free, your only hurting the site. Why not just use something like CookieWall (again from analogx) to kill any tracking that banners can do.
