do any of you actually click on banner adverts? Most sites have them but if only a small amount are clicking on them wouldn't it be better to get rid. Rather than annoying the rest of the people who don't click on them. I have tried affiliate schemes but they never make me any real money.

One time when I was closing the My Favorites window, I missed the little "X" and hit a banner by mistake. I closed it before it had a chance to come up though.

yeah, but it only takes a few users clicking on a banner to make it "successful". 1-2% is VERY good.

We should all be thatnkfull that those few people click on the ads. Without banner ads, web ste providers (at least news sources, which is what I am familiar with) have to find other, more intrusive ways to pay for their hosting. If you thought popups/unders were annoying, wait until they start adding TV commercial like pages between clicks on a web site.

I probably would if there were something good to be gained out of it, like a big discount, free gift, etc. Most times the prices are the same, and it's just a validation to bother people more. Seems to me that there could be someway for them to still advertise, but not make it so annoying. Take for example the muskin Enhanced ad at the top, it's there, you can look at it and click on it if you want, but it's not popping out at you. That meets my approval. Also, isn't there some 10% discount if you click on it through Anandtech? I'm sure AT get's some kick-back but I find that acceptible, they aren't forcing you to buy it from them.

I find that the future could get very messy, imagine this moving into personal handhelds, cellphones, pagers. When you pass by a coffee shop, you get an IM with an ad, etc.
