Banned Words/Phrases

this might seem a little counter-productive...but is there any way that banned words and phrases could be listed somewhere so that people know? i mean, i know it sounds like it defeats the purpose of itself...but...i mean, shouldnt people be allowed to know before commiting an infraction?

most banned words and/or phrases (that i can think of at least) are restricted by the filter thing-- so that you can't post them, unless you specifically try to bypass the filter.

If you say anything that gets past the word censor, then it should probably be allowed.

i doubt they'll put up a list of banned words though... Maybe they could PM them to you, or a member who could host them away from the anandtech site, on a totally unrelated page so that people would know, But wouldnt effect things here, or put Anandtech at any kind of risks.

If it's a cuss word or something then most altered forms don't seem to be bannable, ie the F word with a v instead of a u. However, altered forms of recently banned words such as what you'd do with a knife (sxxx) or going backdoor on a woman are bannable. I don't know the exact reasoning or whatnot but it's best not to say that stuff altogether

thats basically what im looking for...how to know what is bannable that would not be filtered or a phrase that has just "turned" i can think of a few phrases that were at one time acceptable and then later not...
i think it should at least become SOP to post a PSA from the mods when one "turns"

the dumb thing is-- when all somebody has to do is replace a "U" with a "V".. or an "I" with a "|"..... etc.. its not like anyone doesnt understand what is being said, and its not losing any of its meaning.. If they really wanted to be consistant.. they're probably start regulating on the use of actually curse words. Anyhow--- the best idea is just to use common sense. If it sounds bad, don't post it. If the word filter wont let you post it the way its supposed to be spelled: dont replace the 'a' with an '@'.

yeah, i just thought it would kind of help things along. and prevent that sort of mods do what they want attitude that some people seem to have if things were actually written down as being off limits. you know, animal farm style?
(although, i guess thats a bad example, now that i think about it)

Most common sense will avoid banned words.

Those posters that persist in using banned words or phrases [flame suit on] usually have a weakness in using good grammar [/flame suit off ]🙁

One should be able to communicate without resorting to language that gets filtered.

i agree that that is true. however, as i mentioned above, FCC banned words and the like are not really what concerns me most. what concerns me most are the phrases that "turn" banned in a matter of hours with no warnings.

I don't think that you'll have to worry about that, so this is pretty much a non-issue. The only words that are banned are those that should be. What would be nice, though, would be a banning of all the variants.....
