I missed this whole story when it happend and I wanted to read about it. Cause I have heard my friends talk about it and the story always varies, seems to get crazier each time they tell it....

What was the name of the bank/area that that bank robbery happened, with the 2 guys that were heavily armed, and the cops couldn't do anything about it? Untill they came back with bigger guns? And the 2 guys where shooting at the news helicopters or something. I may have mixed up 2 stories or something not sure.

Anyway is this all true, where they really shooting at the helicopters? And one of my friend said that one guy killed himself and the other was hert, but "died' on the way to the hospital?

Thanks

They both died at the scene.. one the result of not being "treated" bled to death. The other sustained a number of gun shots .. neither shot himself. They had Bullet Proof Vests and AK47 type assult weapons..
It almost appeared like they wanted a shootout. This is my take on the episode.

Glad they didn't treat that guy, we need more public lynches or something.

Not exactly. The first gunman took his own his own life after taking a very serious wound. He was killed by a gunshot from his own weapon. The second gunman bled to death as you said. Obviously they wanted a shootout with the police or they would of fled the bank instead of putting on bodyarmor and shooting up the place.

If you know for sure I'll defer... but, I watched it unfold and thought the one shot in front of the pickup was the one who bled to death and the one shot in the head, legs etc. on the side walk was dead from the gun shot of an officer.. maybe I missed something..

I know that one of them shot themselves in the foot, and after that the officers shot him with the rifles they had just gotten from the gun store.

Watch the movie 'Heat' with Dinero. Many people said the big bank heist scene was a direct copy of this public event.

"Cameras were rolling as police shot one suspect in the head. The aerial news crews followed a second, limping gunman as he slowly drove away in a car the first gunman had used as a shield. The driver fired randomly, stopped and appeared to be trying to commandeer a pickup truck.

Crouching behind parked cars and dashing across intersections, police fired back and eventually surrounded him and took him into custody. Police say he later died. "

cnn.com account of the incident.

Maybe someone said one shot himself... I didn't see it.. but, not important..

The gunman walking along the sidewalk lost part of his fingers when his gun was shot out of his hand. He then picked up the gun of the ground, pointed the barrel under his chin and took his life.

How could they copy a event that did not happen yet ? Heat was released in 1995.

Maybe it's the other way around and the robbery was supposed to be a copy of the movie scene  :p

The guy that bled to death did not get treatment for over an hour. His family is suing and will almost certainly win a big chunk of money......

Yeah but the two bank robbers had several bullet proof vests on, along with leg/arm armor which made the police pistols useless. The cops basically huddled behind their cars unloading their clips at the bank robbers hoping to score a headshot. The bank robbers wounded countless police officers (I think 18, and like 6 civilians, none dead). Then the police went to a local gun shop and commandered a load of M-16's and riot shotguns but by the time they got the guns back to the scene, the SWAT team arrived and shot the second bank robber who bled to death.

I believe this suit has been over for years. The family originally filed suit, and 60 Minutes broadcasted an interesting piece that made a strong case for the idea that the LAPD had wrongfully allowed one of the robbers, Emil Matasaraneau, to bleed to death for about an hour, after he was shot 29 times in the legs. The original trial, in Feb 2000, ended with a hung jury (they had voted 9-3 in favor of the officers), and to the best of my knowledge there has been no retrial.
