How does one determine if someone else's check has cleared after you deposit it?
Also, if I deposit someone else's check and it bounces, do banks usually charge the depositor something?

Don't know about the 1st part though there is bound to be a way to validate clearance other than waiting. For the second part of your question, both parties pay the fee. The bouncer and the bouncee.
