I had read about that, but I have a WMC machine as my TV service back end so have no need to use that.
So, you have DVR by virtue of that? You need a separate tuner for that for that machine, right? Is that a machine for which you will use the TCL as the monitor?

Have homerun tuners supplying the TV signal, either through WMC or the Homerun app for Win 10.

I have an HD Homerun and it's hooked up, but haven't succeeded in using it. Tried a couple of times, failed. Maybe I can use it with this rig that's hooked up to the TLC 43S405 and do proper DVR? Or just access it's captures via Wifi. It's connected via ethernet to my router. The rig is Windows 10 64bit, decent video card. Heard WMC was removed from Windows 10 but I saw reference today to a way to install it!

You used to be able to use it in Win 10 in one of the first versions. The latest updates have killed off the ability to sideload it that I know of.

Been continuing the troubleshooting as I can and finally have HDCP & HDR working. Everything up to this point had left only the video card as the problem point. Went and looked through my folders for some older drivers as everything I had tried that's still posted at AMD didn't work, and found a 16.X version as the oldest.

Got that installed and HDCP connection was made and all the video services played properly. HDR setting showed back up in Windows display setting, but if I tried to enable it, the selector would immediately deactivate itself. Remembered something about HDR working with 17.x, so went back and started with the 17.x drivers I had. Loaded the older of the 2 I had, and HDR setting in Windows could be enabled and stayed that way. Went to my newer 17.x and everything still working good.

At that point, connected my USB BR drive, put a movie in, and happily watched it play without issue.

When I have some time this weekend, plan on slowing moving into the 18.x drivers and seeing what happens. I'll see how far I get, if it keep working guess I'll just be happy that something installed with the older version fixed whatever the issue was. If it breaks again, will be time to drop AMD a note.

I have an issue using the TCL 43S405 using a Windows phone and the Roku mobile app. Seems to work OK except that there's no support for headphones connected to the phone. There's supposed to be. I've been dealing with Roku. The headphone icon is missing from the GUI in the Windows phone Roku app. I suppose that Roku just failed to continue support for it? Hell, just read an article that said that Windows 10 phones have dropped recently to 0.1% market share! Also, Microsoft has said they are essentially pulling the plug on support for it end of 2019. My next phone will be Android.

It's hard for me at times not to feel contempt for Microsoft. They bought out Nokia on this and ruined a really good thing.

Wouldn't work for me because it doesn't output analog audio.

Have it set up. Panel uniformity is much better. Still minor viewing angle distortion around the edges, this still less than the TCL and exist only along the edges while the TCL would have it further in. Plus as a PC monitor, think I like the 40" size for being right in front of you a little better.

With the current prices of a 43'' 4k with HDR i am finally gonna jump on one today. Very likely am going to wall mount it as sitting on my desk will most likely be a issue unless i rearrange my room. Coming from a 27'' 1440p panel so overall its a upgrade in size resolution and having HDR obviously will be a must sooner rather then later. Going for one with Roku built in as i have a few of these in the past and they are pretty dang nice. I am more of a lay down and watch it kind of guy then having to fiddle with a mouse on my desk from my bed which with some back issues can be problematic for me.

Not one to abuse a return policy but unless i get my hands on one to play with, i won't ever get to try one out. I hope to intend to keep this panel and unless 8k hits the 43-50'' size in the upcoming years at a affordable price its gonna be prob a long term panel. Looks like a slight drop in ppi over my 1440p but i would be on a wild goose chase finding a 39-40''. They appear for the most part to be replaced by the 43'' panels.

I know some settings will need to be dropped on my 1070ti for gaming, but i got no issues with that. Majority of my games already kind of fly so mind as well make the jump to 4k.

Yeah they had a 40'' for $229 plus tax. I ended up picking that up. So far it looks very nice but still have yet to miss with the hdr settings.

I almost jumped on a TLC then i recalled you mentioning it and i asked the guy about it and he pulled one from the back. Its not exactly advertised on the floor it seems as i wanted closer to 40'' anyways.

Thank you very much for the suggestion, the t.v btw is this one

Still very happy with my 40'' Samsung. Going from huddling next to a 27'' with a workable 65'' inches of space between a wall, computer set up and bed to 85'' has really opened up some room and its been great.I feel like of crazy for not doing it sooner but at $200 between a 50" 1080p or about the same for a 43'' 4k at even Best Buy its almost like you got no excuse not to do it at this point. Its simply affordable for many people now.

Only thing i wish would just take off is more 4k content. Watching many new things many people are still stuck at 1080p and if i find 4k available like on Youtube its like wow. Best Buy had mainly 720p from 19-32'' and minus my 40'' Samsung every 43''+ screen was 4k minus one 40'' Hisense Roku and a $200 Insignia 50'' which both were 1080p. So it just seems 4k is here. The 1080p panels are going away for sure it seems and 4k no longer seems like a niche market. If anything 1080p seems like the new niche while 4k is becoming mainstream.

Got my main tower today out in the living room on my roommates 50'' 1080p and am already missing how much better even basic browsing looks on the 40'' 4k.

Me and her are going to be playing some COD BO4 soon but yeah i just had to see how dramatic of a difference things would look. The old pre 4k me would have prob shrugged off the pixelation but dang it i see them pixels now lol. She streams shows usually older then most of you forum members so she had no reason to go 4k i guess. Keep in mind i sit even further away from the 50'' on a couch currently using a t.v dinner tray for keyboard and mouse and at 6 or so feet the pixels are noticeable. :p I need to invest in a fps " half keyboard" like this so this tray is more usable as its kind of bunched up atm...

I wonder if dsring this thing to 4k would make any difference? My last run with it in gaming usually resulted in odd behavior if not some crashing though

Stopped by wallyworld yesterday for some pool chlorine and while walking down the aisle they still had a couple of the 40" sammy 6 series out listed at $220.

In the final days of plasma, if you got a large TV you also got a 3D model cause they were including it on most models in the 40+ size range. With the shift away from plasma, 3D had been around long enough that it was not proving a big driver in the at home experience so it and the cost associated with it were cut. I was pleasantly amazed last time i actually walked through a BB tv section at how few non 4k models they had. And most of those were relagated in the handfull of 32 inch units available. Even at a place like wally world, unless your looking at those super discount brands you won't see many non 4k in stock.

I don't see going backwards in resolution capability, but it will be nice when the infrastructure catches up. It will be really nice when i can no longer tell the difference between 4k streamed and disc content.

It will be a long while before 4k streaming will be as good as 4k disc content. Too much compression is performed on most of the streams to get it down to bit rates that do not overly stress the hardware. The discs have up to 128Mbps of bandwidth. While that is something that more and more people have access to in terms of internet speed, it still means a relatively few simultaneous streams from a providing server (assuming the server has a 10Gbps uplink to the internet, that is only 78 streams before it hits it's theoretical max network link, with probably only being able to realistically handle 70 streams at once).

Makes sense so 4k in a sense is kind of ahead of its time? I haven't considered buying anything physical in 4k disc yet . I thought most people just went past things that spin media wise at least on a desktop. Having my 400mb connection i knew at least on my end i am beyond good.

I would love to stream some 4k movies when they become available to stream but your explanation does make it sound like currently just maybe physical media still has some purpose in 2019.

I haven't looked into what a 4k player would cost,i kind of did opt out with my pc case but i got usb 3.0 if i must go external. Or i guess hook up a standard non pc one of course

More that the infrastructure in the US isn't close to supplying the product. Even on my gigabyte fiber TV package, there are channels that are only supplied in SD format. It's past time to act like we can't switch to HD+ only.
