Working on a build with my little brother, who is extremely tight on cash, but doesn't need a computer right away.

So far, this is what I have managed... (and this is over 2-3 months)

Case: Ultra Wizard Black Case - $9AR
PSU: Ultra XFinity 600W - $7AR
Memory: 1GB Generic Crucial PC2-5300 - $18AR
Video Card: eVGA 256MB 7800GTX - $70
Hard Drive/Optical: Both carry over - $0

So how am I doing so far? :D

All that's needed it a processor and motherboard. Hopefully July 22nd will have some very nice prices on the E2xxx series of processors. Or maybe I could find an X2+mobo combo for under $100 shipped.

Based on your old-ish ram I might suggest this mobo
BIOSTAR GEFORCE 6100-M9 Socket 939 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard -
it has a combo deal with the MD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Toledo 2.2GHz Socket 939 Processor Model ADA4200DAA5CD
where you can get both for only $125.

I have zip experience with this board though, so I can't vouch for quality

Thoughts?

Yesterday eVGA B-stock special (look in the hot deals section). I was lucky and got in on the first special, which sold out like a minute after I got it. The second one I tried to get about 3 hours later, I loaded up 5 Firefox browsers, and by the time the page loaded enough to let me click "add to cart" in 1 of the 5 browsers - gone.

Thanks for the suggestion commie. Though I have zero experience myself on the AMD side of things so if anyone could follow up that'd be greatly appreciated!

You're doing terrible on your "Bang For Buck Build".
You stated that your brother... "doesn't need a computer right away"

The whole premise of your thread is to compile a list of bargain parts that anyone can purchase any time.
Yet your parts are "after rebate" and on-sale "B" components. That blows the whole idea of your thread out of the water.
