Bandwidth question PCIe 2.0

what video card is bottleneck when the PCIe 2.0x16 runs at x4? would somebody clarify this... because i'm planning for a board with PCIe 2.0x16 with lanes running at x4

4x with PCIe 2.0 slots isn't too bad really. There will be a slowdown but probably not as much as you might think.

what if i put in a 5770 or a 5850? which VC will have the penalty on bandwidth? both or 5850?

4x PCIe 2.0 = 8x PCIe 1.0. With a single card you should expect about 95% the performance of 16x. In other words, the performance hit is minor.

Make sure its 4x PCIe 2.0 and not 4x PCIe 1.0. If its an 1156 board like mine where the second slot is off the northbridge then it is a 4x PCIe 1.0 which sucks.
