Bandwidth being used up

i've got a process running in task manager called Exesy.exe. im not sure what this is but its using a large portion of my connection, my modem light as well as the connect icon on the tray flashes non-stop. when i end the process tho on task manager my modem light and as well as the connect icon on tray stops flashing. Does anyone know what is this process? i scanned my drive for viruses with AVG using the latest updates and it finds nothing. Also used spybot and adaware and it doesn't help. Any info is appreciated on this process. thx in advance.

Looks like you've got some type of bug... Check msconfig and see if it's set to startup on boot? If so, can you uncheck and\or rename? Try these and let us know.

Exesy is listed in msconfig. and yes i can take off the checkmark. It doesn't come back on when i restart. But i still have no clue on what this is. again thx for any help anyone can give.

try microsoft antispyware see if anthing comes up

it sounds like someone is using your connection to spread some kind of worm or virus

mechbgon: i've tried searching for that file and i can't find it anywhere. i've done a search with hidden files and folders checked, (as well as selecting 'show hidden files and folders' on options) also checked the systems folder manually and i can't find it anywhere.

I did forget to mention i had this right after a formated btw. i wanted to do some house cleaning on my drive and install in SP1 until this happened. Its pretty funny how i've had no problems like this using XP. I've never used sp1 or sp2. Now that i wipe my drive and install in sp1 i get this. "If it ain't broke, dont fix it!!!" ARGH!

k, try installing a free 30-day trial of Kaspersky antivirus from http://www.kaspersky.com. Set its real-time and on-demand scanners to Maximum, and go into "Configure Updater" and set it to use extended databases. Disable System Restore, reboot into Safe Mode and fire off an exhaustive Kaspersky antivirus scan in Safe Mode.

I'd be curious to hear what (if anything) it finds, keep us posted

btw you do have a firewall, right?

Right click on the file and check out it's properties. Microsoft makes sure to have it's name and copyright info on every single program they make, so if there isn't anything in there that says Microsoft, or it's some unfamiliar name.. just delete it. If you can't straight up delete it, reboot and go into safe mode (F8) and delete the file from there.

It looks like adware virus. Follow Mech's advice and download that software. From what I can tell it works well in removing this. This Link might give you some ideas.

whoa, alot of replies. it seems that taking whatever is on my comp off is gonna be homework. lol ... looks like an ultra pain so im thinking ill do another format. other then installing in two games i haven't really restored anything on to my main drive. so ill probably just do another format as its probably the fastest and easiest way in getting rid of whatever this Exesy.exe is. None that you know of. There is no reason to be running the RTM version of XP. You can't even get updates for it on Windows Update anymore. There isn't any reason to not run SP2 for that matter, unless there is an app compatibility issue. And most of those can be resolved. Hell, just check the numerous "should I install SP2" threads on this forum.

I did a quick Google search and only a couple things came up (mostly in foreign languages lol). Might it have to do with Windows Update? Someone on CastleCops shows it listed in the \System32 directory and HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Updates] so maybe try searching your registry as well? Don't know if you've tried searching there yet.
