my list :

Them (Van Morrison's band) ... pretty generic
Lynyrd Skynyrd ... just weird if you think about it
Traffic ... lame
The Band ... see above
Mott the Hoople .. wtf?
Procol Harum ... see above
The Guess Who ... guess The Who was already taken ?

They are named the Guess Who because at the time they had no name. The record company noticed that The Who were selling like crazy and wanted to capitalise on that trend and The Guess Who was born.

Just saw in a thread earlier today that their name allegedly was originally who's butt stanks.
