depends on what you listen to. I listen to rock/metal, so here you go:

The bands that the youngen's "like" just so they could be cool are Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd and Iron Maiden. Those kind of kid's only heard probably 2 songs from those bands and say "Yeah do0d I like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin."
 
The key is to hate every band.....well not really.....the key is to convince others the band you like is the "cool" band. Sadly this is not likely achieved by someone asking this question on the intarweb.

Edit: just don't give a fvck what other people think = cool

wow, besides Iron Maiden, that's so true.

Also, if you want to be considered cool in the "intellectual" crowd, listen to Van Morrison, Leonard Cohen, and Bob Dylan.

🙁 I listen to everyone mentioned but never thought of myself as cool for doing so............but at the same time don't consider them "gods" of music

< doesn't enter best song/ bands threads for fear (not really) of being a bandwagonneer (sp?).....
