So the Band of Brothers Marathon has been on all day. Watching it for like the billionth time, I once again realized that it simply doesn't get old!!

Breaking Point may be the best episode in the series too!

Maybe the finest of its kind. Or any kind.

I agree 100%.

I'm not sure another movie or set of movies compares...

I'm not sure if anyone else feels that same, but The Pacific wasn't even in the same universe as Band of Brothers.

Watched it last year. Don't plan on watching it again for several years, if ever.

Cliffs: yes it does get old.

Yes, SPIKE HD has a marathon till 11:42 pm CST, all 10 episodes. :awe:
I wonder how it compares to another 10 part war show, The Pacific.

Can't really compare the 2 shows....BOB was about a single company while the Pacific focuses on 3 different guys so the continuity was pretty different.

The bar was set pretty high with BOB so alot of people were generally not impressed with the Pacific.

I mentioned earlier that I really didn't like the Pacific much. There were some parts in the first 2 episodes that were pretty good, but overall I thought it wasn't that good.

The Pacific is good ... but not on the same level as BoB.

BoB has a few really good episodes but a lot of filler... like every other TV show out there, HBO or not.

My main deal with the Pacific is that it didn't focus on the camaraderie, courage, and fellowship amongst the unit. It seemed like everyone (Save for Basilone) was portrayed as selfish.

Not only that, there was WAY too much of a love story. Every time I turned around there was another sex scene or another make out session.

I dunno - I just never felt nearly as connected....

Care to name those "filler episodes"? Also, given that it is a 10 part mini series, a few is a pretty significant portion of the series in my mind...

I felt this way too about The Pacific, but I think the point of the whole series, especially towards the latter half, is to showcase the pure brutality of the pacific side of the war and how the soldiers dealt with it. Shortly after watching the series, I read Sledgehammer's book and it really made me appreciate the whole point of The Pacific.

I do agree that the show seems disconnected. At the end of the series when they showed what some of the marines did after the war, I didn't even recognize who half of them were.

OOhhh....let me put in my $.02.

HBO hyped this up so much. Keep in mind that I sell HBO, so they were pitching this hard to us. I haven't looked forward to anything on TV that much since...well probably since Kevin kissed Winny.

Then the first episode aired. It was ok but I figured that it would get better as it went on. It didn't. I was let down beyond words. With all the money spent on that, all the hype, all the names...they still managed to screw it up.

And yes...the nudity took away from it. A little boobage is great. But why have a series about WW2 focus on sex and boobs? I can watch B movie flicks for that.

I'm still mad that this series was so bad. Its not like they can ever redo it with the grim outcome of what happened with The Pacific.

The one(s?) in the mountains. I wouldn't call them filler but they for sure weren't as action packed as the rest. They needed to be part of the series though and I see nothing wrong with them.

Band of Brothers is great! I just rented The Pacific on netflix and was kind of meh about it... Band of Brothers put the bar too high I guess.

Unless I am mistaken, only 1 episode featured Austria, the Bavarian Mountians, and Berchtesgaden-- the last episode.

I can understand that one not being as action packed as it was meant to wrap everything up. The one immediately before that though was the episode with the Concentration Camp -- I'm not sure one can really bash this episode for lack of action. I don't know that there are many scenes in movies that can make me feel as numb as the Concentration Camp scene in BoB...

At any rate, I can completely see what you are saying.

If you don't watch them all in a row, those episodes would be kind of unfulfilling. Watched in the set, they are damn near perfect. I mean...something has to happen after all the battles.

On the same note...I freaking hate the scene where they are in the woods in the winter and are getting hammered with mortars. UGGGGH. I seriously wanted to dig a home to jump in for safety but the ground is too frozen. And its cold anyways....so frustrating.

That's what I love about BoB. I don't remember many lines from the movie, only a few scenes, but I for sure remember how it made me feel during certain parts. And during most of those parts I am cringing or scared or pissed.

And now I want to play BF1942

The reason that they couldn't focus on a single unit is that many of the units in the Pacific suffered severe causalties and were always getting new recruits so it would not possible to do what they did with BoB...

Fair point. I still would like to have seen those aforementioned aspects from the different soldiers they did follow.
