keep the bananas out of the fridge. bananas give off ethylene as they ripen, so putting them in a bag will produce a delicious chain reaction. don't forget to check on them every day, and remove them before they over-ripen.

OK, bag it is. I'll be back.

I left them in the bag overnight, but they still were not edible this morning.

I like refrigerated bananas. They will spoil faster though so you have to have intentions to eat them soon.

My guess is that it is possible that somewhere along the way between the tree and your banana hammock, they became frozen and then thawed out. Would this kind of "kill" the banana and prevent it from ever ripening? Bananas are a tropical fruit and do not deal well with cold/freezing temperatures I think. Maybe the stock boy at the grocery store accidentally put the crate of bananas in the meat freezer overnight or something.

If it isn't working yet put a ripe to over ripe apple in the bag with the bananas.
I'm sure you are familiar with the expression, "One bad apple spoils the whole batch."
It is because of the ethelyne from ripening
