I am moving into my new house very soon and since I'll finally be setting up my home entertainment stuff with some permanence (no more moving between apartments) I want to do it right.

So I've ordered 10AWG speaker cable from BlueJeans and now I need banana plugs. I've seen these from monoprice:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10401&cs_id=1040115&p_id=2801&seq=1&format=2
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10401&cs_id=1040115&p_id=2943&seq=1&format=2

My first question is, which is preferable, open or closed screw type? Secondly, it says it only works up to 12AWG. Will these work with the 10AWG I bought or are there options out there that I should be using other than one of these?

Thanks.

Not far, but I didn't see any disadvantage to having the larger gauge.

With 10ga, it'll take some real effort to get the wire into the plugs in your first link. I have those plugs with 12ga wire also from Monoprice, and even on that, I had to shave down the jacket a little bit.

I would think the open/closed question depends on personal preference and what you have room for.

I think that closed plugs look cleaner. Is there any reason to go with the open banana plugs?

If they haven't shipped, they might be able to change the order to 12 awg without problems.

He could order the 10 awg with the banana plugs already installed too. Poof! Problem solved! I mean, there had to be a reason that he wanted 10 awg, right?

I modified my order my emailing them before they shipped. I can't have them do the termination because I am not sure the exact length I need yet.

Now the only real question is; should I get open or closed screw banana clips?

did they say they modified the order? better make sure of that first. As to termination, you can just use bare wire. Plus are really only useful to people who like to change things a lot.

You can go spade if you really want to terminate.

Yes, they confirmed the change.

I considered spade, but the first set of spade connectors I bought weren't large enough for the posts on my Rocket RS450's.

lol, measure first, then measure again, then order. Like I said, termination is not really necessary.

Closed is a little more complicated than open. Some people prefer the closed look, others prefer open.

I am on the open side, that way your cables hand straight down, more or less.

Eh, I just overbought instead. We aren't in the house yet, but I travel about 80% of the time for work, but took a week off to get the house setup. I want to have all of the pieces ready to go so I can just get everything hooked up and be done with it.

what I meant was, you don't need the plugs right away, you can use bare wire and then use the plugs when you are settled in. There are more important things than banana plugs when you are moving :p
