If you want to drive an off-road behemoth, you might start by getting off the city's streets, a state lawmaker says.

A Queens assemblyman wants to ban monster sport-utility vehicles from New York City's streets and parkways.

"They're too big for the city. They generate too much pollution. I think the law would deter people from having SUVs in the city," said Milen Radunovich, 18, a Manhattan student.

Are these the same folks who voted for Gore? Why yes. Yes they are!

Wouldn't upset me. I live in Philly, and while SUV's have their place in this world, a big city is NOT one of them.

Let's put it this way... I've tried a few times to drive my Eclipse (non-lowered) through Manhattan... midtown a few times. Even my old Neon took a severe pounding... I thought I had blown out my tires a few times in the unavoidable 'I'll swallow the car'-size potholes.

SUVs don't belong in a crowded environment... but if you can't drive a regular car without destroying it over the potholes... you bet your @$$ I'm going to be driving my Ford Exploder up and down 5th Avenue. And that's even despite the fact that I HATE... HATE SUVs... I hate driving them as well.

They should get potholes off NY city streets first!

Yea, true. That guys an idiot, you can't just ban SUV's.
I'm not sure.

I think that some of the larger ones are actually registered as trucks. They might be able to ban trucks without commercial plates within the city limits.

i think if it's over 3 tons, it's qualified as a truck.

This is just a bunch of wasted air and ink. Ban will never go through

SUVs contribute to road-wear

overweight cars + shoddy road construction (or "average" since its all by union construction workers) + rain = potholes

of course rain +SUVs by itself is a less than optimal combination due to the higher center of gravity and excessively increased momentum
