bamboo floor?

I have about 350-400 sq ft of floor that I want to put down hardwood on (hall and living room, possibly dining area)

costco has really only had laminate floor - which I don't mind putting down other than the asthetic side of things... it's pretty obviously not real wood. I had my mind set on engineered wood..

yesterday I noticed costco had bamboo hardwood flooring for $1.97 a sq ft.. that seems pretty cheap.. it isn't laminate, it's more like 'pressed bamboo - but it is bamboo throughout

opinions?

my folks had River Redgum put in throughout (cost them about $8k for the house i think), and they've decided it's a total PITA to live with, they're moving now & certainly won't be going down that route again.

Bamboo floor's look good. I may use it in my house. I plan on doing the living room and hall, and bamboo is definitely something I will consider.

the only thing I don't like is that the floor still has a 'fake' look... each plank has like 6-8 stalks of bamboo.. hard to explain... ill try and find a pic

I read about this before from someone who had it... I think on this forum, in fact.

They said it looked good but was too soft, and dented easily.

River Redgum is an aussie hardwood, looks very smart indeed (very warm). But the coating that they had put on it scratched far too easily, and it showed up the tiniest amounts of dust/cat hair etc as well...

I think the bamboo looks pretty good... besides, it's more environmentally friendly to use so you can feel smug about it.

Well actually, you do have to watch out for formaldehyde.

I purchased my bamboo from a specific place because they tested their levels of formaldehyde.

formaldehyde is used in the glue that is used to put together the planks.
