Nah, if anything, be pleased that the country is gaining acceptance. Of course it's not there yet, but it's far better than it has been in the past.

virginia's amendment is hilarious. I can't wait to laugh after it ***** them in the butt.

?

Yes, explain.,

it doesn't just ban gay marriage... it bans anything that might even resemble marriage, for both straight and gay people.

want to write up a will to pass your property down to your best friend? well, that might be illegal in Virginia now. it's really rife for someone to challenge in court.

to quote from one analysis...

the text is confusing and overly broad. It could threaten all types of legal arrangements between unmarried people, gay or straight. That includes advance medical directives, wills and protection from abuse orders.

I'd agree with you. If civil unions had the same rights as marriages then I'd favor civil unions only for homosexual couples.

Hit the nail on the head. Marriage is sacred because it's specifically mentioned in the Bible and will never fly. Civil unions would make it all better.

So is eating and drinking, but gays can do that with no blasphemy. You need to be careful with your "separate-but-equal" stance. Learn from the past. We've been down this road before.

unfortunately, most of the bans outlawed both gay marriage AND civil unions.

/shrug

not really my problem if other states don't want my large amount of disposable income.

arent all these determined by the supreme court anyways?

Abortion has obviously been decided already by the supreme court, but there may be enough conservative justices to overturn that now... passing a law against abortion would be the first step.

The same sex marriage votes were mostly for state constitutional amendments I think. Constitution > court.

FYI right to abortion is not in the Constitution.

Pretty much. There was one conglomerate in Missouri that will be THE major beneficiary of the stem cell bill passed in Missouri. They're also the ones that supplied over 90% of the funds for the campaign ads.

The stem cell campaign was also very misleading as it rarely made mention of embryonic stem cell research and the moral and ethical issues that arises from it and made no mention of the fact that this bill makes cloning of embryos legal.

I would vote against a ban on abortion and I don't really give a crap if gays are allowed to marry each other. I'm a registered Republican BTW.

Oh, and stem cell research is fine with me too.

There is no ban on stem cell research......the issue is using our tax dollars to fund lobbyists and researchers when there is plenty of private money willing to do it. Do you think it's fair that 51% of people can vote to force 100% of the people to fund a science that 49% of the people are against?

Good news for conservatives:

- Michigan passed a law banning the use of affirmative action (racial preferences) by state agencies and universities.

- States with same-sex marriage bans grew by 7.

- Restrictions on the use of eminent domain passed resoundingly.

- Prop 87 in California (big taxes on oil to fund alternative energy research) was defeated.

- Congress' leading anti-illegal immigration activist (Tancredo) won his fifth term by a large margin.

- Arizona approved 4 ballot measures targeting illegal immigration

this belongs in P&N though.

That won't work. I used to be of the same mindset. It would cause undue discrimination against gays even more so than today.

Just think about it, you go apply for a job and you have to check the "civil union" box. The employer instantly knows you are gay.

It will create a HUGE backlash. When the employee could have kept his personal life personal, not he wouldn't be able to just because of a simply check mark.

Either call EVERYTHING a civil union or give in on the marriage idea.

I think the big question should be, "Why is government in the business of regulating marriage in the first place?"

Let individuals and religious organizations make that determination.

I believe this had to do with Cloning and not for medical research.

I think that is what the vote did; let the people decide.

That won't work as hetero's don't want to be considered with gays.
