Ball or sleave bearing??

Ball bearing has an actually ball bearing inside the fan so the contact point is very small. The sleeve bearing is basically a ring of metal around a metal axle (contact point much larger). Ball bearing fans are usually more expensive, but last longer and are quieter. By all means, get the ball bearing fans.

Ball bearing fans are better.

Ball bearing fans are actually louder then a sleeve bearing fan. The bearings have a rumble to them as they rotate. Sleeve bearing fans rotate on a film of oil as they turn and thus are very quiet.

Ball bearing fans have a longer life-time then sleeve bearings though the newer sleeve bearing fans will last much longer then they used to.

Unless you are going for the absolutely quietest computer you can, I would also still reccomend ball bearings.

If someone wants to argue the point re. noise of ball vs. sleeve please compare the noise level at the same cfm. papst
