Baldur's Gate Trilogy question

So I'm playing through Baldur's Gate Trilogy again (BGT mod, Baldur's Gate 1 + Baldur's Gate II) since it's been a really long time since my last playthrough and I've forgotten a lot of things. I noticed that merchants in BG1 adjust their "buying price" for your items depending on the quantity they already have in stock; i.e. if they have no short swords and you try selling them five at once, you'll sell all five for 5gp each. However, if you try to sell all five short swords one at a time, you'll get, say, 5gp, then 4gp, then 3gp, 3gp, and 2gp. If the shopkeeper already has 10 short swords in his inventory, then he won't buy your swords for more than 1gp each.
This is extremely annoying for a pack mule like me; I have to constantly find new merchants to sell stuff to. Merchants in BG1 are much harder to find than in BG2, mostly because I don't have all the merchant locations memorized...

Does anyone know of a way around this? Is it built into the default game, or is it one of the mods I installed? I looked through BG1 and BG2 tweak/fixpacks and none of them mentioned anything about item price or depreciation or anything. I also don't remember having this happen in BG2, before I installed BGTrilogy.

nope, it happens in BG2 as well.

i never really played BG1 (despite beating BG2 at least 10x) so I don't know what to tell you :p

You could buy back all the inventory then sell it back again all at the same time. Obviously it means that you waste a bit of money, but if the merchant has a lot of existing inventory then the money you gain by creating a shortage and then selling it all back will be greater than the money you lose buying everything for a really low price.

One reason why I loved those games. So much attention to detail on everything.

What do you mean they're hard to find?

- three or four in Beregost (plus the temple on the east)
- one in Nashkel
- four or five at the tents near Nashkel
- two in Friendly Arm
- the lone mage SE of Candlekeep
- another five or six in Baldur's Gate (if not more)

And more here and there. Looks plenty to me ;)

As for removing this mechanic, I don't recall anything like that.

I've thought about doing that, but doing so would require actually having to do math. With such mundane items like normal swords and leather armors, it's only going to be a few extra gold pieces here and there. It's very trivial, which is why I want to remove this mechanic.

They're harder to find because I don't have the merchant locations memorized :hmm: in BG2 I knew the location of every merchant in Waukeen's Promenade (over 9 merchants, off the top of my head), and more in the surrounding Athkatla areas.

I really need to finish these games, but each time something comes up the mods I use get updated and I need to figure out the install order over again.
