Baldur's Gate II help needed

I just bought the game earlier, installed it, and patched it with the Nov 00 file. I have a Herc GF2 GTS Pro w/ the 6.50 drivers. Under the BASIC tab I have the General, Graphics, Sound to Maximum PC 600MHz. Under the Graphics tab I have the 3d options area w/ the 3d animation box checked. If I select use 3d acceleration I cannot see the RBG test patern. However I can run 1600x1200 32bit though without the 3d acceleration box checked and I see the pattern.....any ideas?

might be a driver issue.. if you uncheck the 3D box, you are basically running in 2D mode (no 3D acceleration, no eye candy, like your desktop), which is why you can do 1600x1200. Maybe a different version of your driver? or newer DirectX?
