No.
Turn on 3D acceleration and see if you have problems.
I get misaligned textures with my GeForce 7900GTX.
When I turn it off the textures line up and I dont see a noticeable speed drop.
It may actually help you, I dont know.

I couldn't get my BG2 to run at 1280x960, so I had to run it at 1024x768 (or whatever it is). 3D acceleration worked fine with my MX420 and my 6800NU.

As for the collector's edition, you can cheat to create the special merchants, so you don't necessarily need to buy the Collector's Edition to get the special items.

err...i dont remember, but does your party not move with you? it's getting kind of frustrating having to move each one and no one really doing anything.

You have to select your entire party. There's a button that does that in the bottom right. You can also set individual AI if you want, but I preferred to pause and do it manually.

i generally move the party as a whole, though on occasions, it's better tactically to work with memebers individually.

use the = key to select all party members, 0 selects the 5th and 6th members, 9 selects 3 and 4, 8 selects 1 and 2, IIRC.

= key ftw... so much easier than dragging the cursor :)

Also, when you select two or more members you get a bunch of orientation buttons on the bottom to select HOW they move in a group, i.e. their formation.

If you right click on one of those buttons you can see a bunch more buttons.
My favorite is the staggered. Its like the 2x3 only offset a little, so they can move through tight passages but still cover each other.

but if i select them all and then attack an enemy my mages would never do anything but physically attack, right? or at least that is what i am seeing.

yes, selecting the entire party and telling them to attack will tell all members to attack.

i press the spacebar as soon as i come under attack, that way i can direct each member individually without having to worry about time constraints. obviously i have the fighters attack in melee, and my mages to cast spells (generally magic missile, acid arrow, or fireball)

There is Character AI, you can assign a certain script to your characters, make your own, or download scripts that other people made (as I recall, anyway). It's somewhere in the Records menu (the one where you get the big portrait of your party member). The AI On/Off button is next to the "Select All Members of Party" button in the lower right, and A is the default hotkey for it.

If you have a cleric/druid of sufficient level, you might have access to a raising spell. There are also scrolls & clerics inside temples that can do the deed for a fee. If your team member is blown to chunks however, he/she/it is long gone & cannot be revived.

you can revive your character with raise dead (lvl cleric or druid, IIRC) and jaheira get's harper's call, also lvl.. raise dead, caster loses 5hp. resurrect (lvl 7 spell, revives with full HP instead of 1hp) also works once you get higher levels. you can also go to temples (temple of waukeen in waukeen's promenade, for example) and pay the priests to revive your characters.

however - if you are playing on "insane" difficulty and one of your characters is gibbed and their icon disappears from the sidebar, you cannot revive them (so loading the most recent save is a good move ;))

If you are talking about Khalid, you cant. He's gone for good.
If you are talking about one of the people you pick up and take in your party, then yes you have to wait. Its OK, there are plenty of places to buy scrolls and raise dead members once you get out.
OR...... if you import a high level cleric or druid or somehow manage to raise Jaheiras level to the point she can cast some good spells, then maybe you can revive a dead party member.
Or you could just start over and be more careful. Part of the fun and challenge of the first dungeon is not having many spells or good items to use. It makes you work on your dungeon-crawling skills.
