No BioWare, no Interplay, no Black Isle... but Vivendi? 😕

For my money, BG2 was the best PC game ever made. Not sure if this "sequel" is a good thing or a bad thing , considering who is(or isn't) potentially involved.

Came across it at IGn...their mailbag...

i usually buy my games used, but if this is true, BG3 will be the first game i will be paying retail for in over 2 years :Q

and i must concur, BG2 is possibly my favorite game of all time.....or maybe it's Loom 😀

I read recently BW has no current plans to develop BG 3 so this must be a mistake. Of course not planning to do BG 3 is a mistake in and of itself..

From what I've heard it won't be a sequel (no more Bhaalspawn). They'll just use the Baldur's Gate name to tap into the established fan-base. In fact, the terms of the old BG license specified that any AD&D game made by BIS/BIO/IPLY was *required* to include BG in the title, so if they want to use the FR setting at all they have no choice but to name it BG-something. Oddly enough, the previous games didn't actually have to be set in BG, only include that name in the title. The Icewind Dale license is the same way, so I would guess that any new BG license would have the same terms.
