Baking a cake with strawberry filling

The cake will be three layers: chocolate devils food, strawberry filling, and chocolate again. Should I bake one thick cake and cut it into two pieces for the filling? Or should I bake two separate layers in two pans?

What would come out better?

Bake two layers. That way, you will cook the cake more evenly, instead of having a dry and potentially burnt outer area, with a moist and spongy and maybe even raw inner area.

Makes sense to me. Thanks!

I hate you, I hope you choke on your strawberries.

jk, Strawberries are my favorite and life felt necessary to make me allergic to them recently.:brokenheart:

a hint for you, when you bake the two cakes, when you put the strawberries between them, invert the top layer to make it touch the bottom layer so there is an even top on the cake. does that make sense?

Thanks for the tip.

Both layers came out a little rounded on the top side, forcing me to cut ~1/4" to plane it. I made sure to hide the "cut" sides on the inside for filling (leaving the smooth side on top). The cake was a good first attempt. The girlfriend loved the thought.🙂

Good for you! that is always a sweet and thoughtful thing to do for a loved one! means so much more than going to a bakery 🙂
kudos to you!
