i have some brake dust that's been practically baked into my alloy wheels. what's the best way to get it off?

i used some engine degreaser and a wire brush that seemed to kinda do the trick, but i ended up wearing out the brush after half of one wheel. is there an easier method? can i use some kind of solvent or something? are there wire brush cleaning drill heads?

There's all sorts of aluminum rim cleaners if you look at Wal Mart.

That's the type of mess that you'd probably need to take the wheel off to clean properly though. I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure there is plenty of grime on your undercarriage that you never clean either.
