Bait and switch happened to me - best approach?

I feel like such a dumbass. I purchased a very nice mattress. Before signing for delivery (conveniently scheduled 2.5 weeks after purchase) I double checked my receipt/invoice and verified. So I signed. I accepted delivery of what was on my receipt.

Problem is I really don't think this is what I agreed to. You know how mattress sales are.

So, who do I go to first? The retailer or the CC. Or both? I plan on raising stink in person with the retailer tomorrow.

-update-
I'm not an idiot, retard maybe, but no idiot. I just didn't receive what I had agreed to purchase.

Spoke with retail manager today bringing the mattress tag (the cloth thing that is put on there by the manufacturer that says do not remove) and all other documentation. Kindly stated that this is not the model/make that I agreed to purchase and showed the make/model that I wanted/agreed to purchase - again proving that they do not match. 18778839 king size mattress is different than 18993443 king size mattress.

After some frank and calm discussion and simply saying "I am going to dispute this charge with my CC if we can't get this resolved." I have a pick-up and re-delivery of the correct mattress scheduled.

Thanks for the help.

Retailer first but you haven't told us what went wrong.

Huh?

CC generally requires you to attempt to deal with retailer first.

your post seems to contradict yourself. You said you double checked the invoice before signing so how could you have gotten it wrong? If you were bait and switched, shouldn't the new item be significantly more expensive?

OK - here's details...

1) Work with salesman at retailer, pick out a mattress. Gimme that.
2) Go to counter to purchase and setup delivery.
3) Purchase and sign - making sure we are clear on model, etc. Salesman checks printed sheets of paper (this should have been the dead give-away) and verbally verifying.
4) I ask - "I need to verify that what I'm purchasing is what I want as well as confirmation on delivery."
5) "oh, just look right here on your invoice."

Eitherway - I have to dispute this. Either with the retailer or the elsewhere. I feel like such a dumbass and I know better. This is NOT buyers remorse.

The dang brand isn't even the same. But the invoice matches the delivery.

My standard answer is to get on the horn and call. But who do you call first? Time is of the essence so I'm inclined to at least flag the charge with my CC as disputable.

So you were sent the wrong item. It happens. Call the store. If they take care of it for you - no problem. If they hassle you, call the CC company.

So you're saying you were told you were buying brand "X" mattress, but invoice says you bought brand "Y" mattress and you received brand "Y" mattress?

My item purchased matches what was delivered and I accepted delivery.

This item is not what I verbally agreed to purchase.

Imagine picking out a blue camry, you are rung up at the register for a red accord. Due to no real model numbers or brand you sign and purchase with CC. You are delivered a red accord - this matches your invoice so you accept delivery.

You then discover that you agreed to a blue camry but now have a red accord. You are pissed.

That is correct.

If the salesman was trying to deceive you, that constitutes fraud, not bait and switch. Not a big issue, but if you say bait and switch to them, they might waste time arguing about that specification.

LOL!

You try taking back a supersized king mattress.

Agaboo - bait and switch is deception. Make you believe you are buying something, but switching it at the end.

Lesson learned. Never believe what 60 year old folks in retail tell you. There's a reason why they are still in retail. They're just that good. I'm pissed.

If you go to the store, don't be a pushover, but be nice and respectful too. Remember that you messed up by signing the wrong papers, just as the salesman messed up by producing the wrong papers. The key in a situation like this is to assert to the manager your value as a customer, not your moral high ground. You're much more likely to get what you want if you start off asking a favor. There's no way to know or prove whether they did this intentionally or not, so don't even bother worrying about it. That will absolutely NOT help you. But do talk to your CC company before you go to the store, and see what they say, so you will know better what to say to the store manager.

Is there any doubt as to who misunderstood here. No bait and switch here - obvious from first post, just someone did not bring his brain with his body to the store - you left your mind elswhere.

Bait and switch is advertising one item to get you in, then switching you to something else.

What you have is either a mistake, or just a plain crooked salesman. Go back to them and talk to them about it.

Immediately go into the store and throw the mattress on the floor, start jumping on it while whining you want a new mattress, works for me.

P.S. Do your wife on it before you take it back, hopefully while it is in storage it will develop spores off of the spilled male ejaculation so they can't sell it, blame it on their storage conditions if they try to sue.

This doesn't make any sense at all.

If your item purchased matches what was delivered, then why the hell are you complaining?
