The summary: The British car company "Rover" is using an Indian car (TATA Indica) as a base for its new supermini. I never thought I'd see the day where a British car is being based of an Indian car!! If any of you knew the history of Indian auto makes, in the early days they used to be based of British cars (and some still are using the same design since the 60s - "Ambassador"-- it's built like a tank)...but now they are mostly independent have their own designs.
I've driven the Indica (the diesel version) in India..and its a nice vehicle. Not up to US standards obviously (since interior quality isn't really a big concern there...only reliabilty, interior space and mileage), but its a good car. Very spacious inside, yet small on the outside.
Anyway, I'm happy to see the Indian automotive market getting international exposure, hopefully it'll be successful and we'll be seeing more things from the sub-continent.
