Time to form a firing squad, my boy decided he wanted to watch Robots in the camper last night, well my portable DVD player crapped out on me last month so I decided to let the boy watch it on the Inspiron my SO bought me a few weeks ago, I popped in the Robots DVD and immediately without any warning it installs this POS software Hot Lama, I hit control/alt/delete to stop that crap but it was too late, OK, I'll just remove that crap once the lappy reboots but NOOOOO it will not allow me to remove it at all, tried all the usual avenues including deleting the file folders,
Access denied, MOTHERPUSSBUCKET.
OK that was bad enough but I tried jumping on the net this morning (have cable) and all my settings and tweaks are now all hosed and boned, no access, file and print sharing is now installed and running (what the FVCK!), so I run AVG,spybot etc and it is now loaded with a sh!tload of spyware including three different p0rn dialers which spybot,AVG,CC cleaner and AdAware cannot remove, not even in Safe Mode, GGRRRRRRRR.

Well it took me two ffing hours to straighten out my network connections just to get back online and now I fear I may have to wipe my hard drive clean and do a fresh install of XP,I think it's time to hunt down these bastards and do some good for humanity and leave not a trace of their existance on this planet.

Rant over :|

I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore.

wait... Robots, a kids movie, installed porn dialers?
it also installed tons of other spyware and hosed up your PC?

huh?

Correct pontifex, my lappy was clean and running smoothly until that Robots DVD was dropped into the DVD drive, this movie was purchsed in a store by his mother a month ago.

Worst Buy to be exact.

My thoughts exactly. OP, are you sure you're boy didn't accidentally go to a bad website or d/l anything he shouldn't have? You might want to disable autoplay in Windows when you get it all fixed up.

You could have spent those two hours reading your kid a book.

Edit: and see the bottom of my sig.
So your kid will never watch a movie? @ss

Oh, you're right. I'm sure the kid a great time watching his dad blow a gasket cussing at the computer.

If I couldn't get it to work in five minutes, I would have given up and done something more productive with my kid.

I'm guessing one of the following actually happened:

1. The DVD is pirated and contained those spy/malware/porn stuff

2. The DVD probably had a pop up saying "do you want to install etc etc" and OP just went "OH OK" <click yes>

3. His kid had been surfing porn or installing 3rd party software

4. OP had been surfing porn or installing 3rd party software

5. OP just sucks at computers

But surely putting in a legit Robots DVD will not give you all that crap...something else happened NOT the DVD's fault.

... what store?...

Boot in to Safe Mode and run the common spyware scanners (Spybot, AdAware, etc)

You shouldn't get the access denied messeges in safe mode.

Yes, I've found seemingly legit kids games and DVD's that install nuisance stuff and maybe even something you'd call spyware, but I've never heard of a legit DVD installing the kind of stuff you're talking about. There is something else going on......
