bah, washer broke

Damn Kenmore will soak but won't rinse. Seems like the motor works but the wash barrel (where you put the clothes in) isn't catching onto the motor. How expensive are these things to fix?

A local appliance parts store can get you a repair manual for it. Whirlpool and Kenmore are interchangable. If they aren't too busy, they may be able to help you troubleshoot it, and sell you the repair parts it needs. The manual will also have steps to pinpoint the problem.

There was a better one with all kinds of diagrams for repairing stuff. Used it to fix my washer a few years ago and my dryer a year later.

Can't find it now.

we haven't opened it up yet but the basin does drain. It runs through all the washing stages but the bucket just doesnt move and the center agitator pillar doesnt rotate. I think I can hear the motor running though

prob a broken belt then if there is one. theres a seperate pump for draining the water.im an electrician(in europe) only know a little about washers

There could be so many things at fault. Timer with bad contacts, not tripping a solenoid that engages a clutch. Belt broken. Pump seized at the shaft. Belt slipping. Clutch broken or worn. Gear broke in transmission. Tooth broken on other gears...

Ageed, but the belt is number one to look at. If it's in the transmission on an 11 year old machine, it's a good time to go shopping.

Yeah, good idea. Wouldn't hurt (much) to take a peek. I kept our old Sears set running for over 20 years. Couldn't have done it without manuals though.

well, my dad opened it up a couple of days ago and saw that it was the coupling that was worn or broken. Went to Sears and bought a new one for $12 or something. Excellent...😀
