Ok well heres the story. My mom was using my computer to scan in some pictures and create some kind of powerpoint presentation. Well all of a sudden when she was using the scanner, my computer froze up, and when she tried to restart, it wouldn't let her back into XP. Well after tinkering with it for a while, I've narrowed it down to a possible video card problem with my GeForce 4 MMX 440. Whenever I uninstall the GeForce through safe mode and try to go into windows normally, it lets me into windows, but then after about a minute the system turns to a black screen then freezes up usually with part of the windows desktop showing. Now on the other hand if I do reinstallt he GeForce in safe mode, my computer simply will not go into XP, and it freezes up at the loading screen :-\. I am really lost on waht to do and any help would be appreciated.

System Specs:
1.4 mhz Athlon
Geforce 4 MMX 440
1 gig or so of ram
Abit Mobo
ummm ok thats all I remember

any chance of trying the card in another comp ? or borrowing another video card to try ?

is windows just redetecting the vid card correctly and reinstalling the same drivers again ? or as a standard vid card? if not , tell windows to install the standard display adapter. also try reinstalling 4in1 drivers if using a via mb , along with directX.
good luck
