Bah My Motorola Nextel i90c just broke down on me and refuses to charge. My contract with them is over and after talking it over w/ mom we've decided to get a new Verizon plan.

I need phone suggestions from you guys. Preferably I would like a menu system that is similar to the Motorola I have now. I don't care if it has a camera or not cuz I alrdy have a nice Canon Digicam. Color Display is a plus but not a necessity.
Must be:
1. Flip Top
2. External Display
3. Light
4. Good Battery Life
5. Not Flimsy

Also can anyone recommend any good plans/accessories/features? Thanks.

I am about to get my first phone through verizon or any service for that matter, so I have an intrest in this thread as well. Verizons phones are not the greatest phones in the world, but they are getting better. I was originally considering the audivox 8900, I think it fits your requirments, but I have heard its problematic. So now I am strongly considering the Samsung SCH a530, should also fit your needs well and everything I have read about it has been great. The LG VX6000 seems nice, but if you don't need a camera which you said you didn't, then i really don't think it offers much over other phones and I don't really care for its look, but thats just my opinion.

Take this for what its worth as I have not used any of these phones, just have been researching a lot lately.

LG VX6000 if you want the camera otherwise the LG VX4400 which also provides analog service for better coverage.

Are the LG's better then the samsung A530? I was originally considering the audiovox 8900 till I found out it was made by hyundai and it seems to have its fair share of problems. SO now I am leaning more towards the samsung, but it seems like everyone always recommends LG's. I don't really like the looks of the LG's though.

Nobody else have an opinion on LG phones? I don't perticularlly care for the look of the VX6000, but if its a good phone, which it seems to be, I guess i could get over that. Its just seems kinda girly looking to me, but man you can't hardly beat 99.00 bucks after 50.00 rebate and a 100.00 gift card from circuitcity. That deal is hot, it is tempting me away from the Samsung.

How did you break your nextel? I have dropped my nextel from the top of a 7 foot ladder, and sans a slight dent on the battery cover, it's fine. I have also seen people throw their nextel's, and not break them. Also, the only phone that will have a slightly similar menu structure (not exactly the same, but closest) is the Motorola T720. However, I would hands down recommend any LG, even the VX1 (Old school, my second VZW phone) over the T720.

Also how does wireless web browsing work and what does it cost? I am currentlly using dial up on my computer, until i move. SO I was wondering if I got the connection thingy if I could use the slightly faster verizon to connect my computer to the internet. Does this use your minutes, or is it an extra charge? And if it does indeed use your minutes, does it qualify for the free night and weekends? Like can I browse as much as I want on night and weekends and not eat up my minutes?

I have the LGVX6000 and love it... i thought it was a little big at first, but now i'm really used to it. THe menu beat the A530 menu and the color screen is superior. It just depends on if you want a really small phone or a normal size phone. But the LG is a sweet phone, even if you don't need a camera.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the look of the LG (big round with lots of differnt color lights, which I associate with a spaceship for some reason.)

I love the Samsung a530 though (I still have the Samsung a310... the preceding generation of the same model). The a530 is smaller and doesn't have the excessiveness of the LG.

I am with Verizon and my next phone when my contract thing is up in a few months will probably be the LG. Anyhow, aslo I am quite happy with Verizon and I have known quite a few people that have recently switched to them.

as much as i hate to say it, the LGs are good phones
the motorolas aren't what they used to be, stay away from them

Yeah I have heard bad things about the T720 and 730, not so much about the V60 series, but I don't really like the motos anyways. I like the size of the Samsung, but that is because I figured I would usually have it in a pocket, but if I get a belt clip holster then that doesn't mater. I think I will go check the phones out and maybe start with the 6000 and if I don't like it then get the 530.

Its not so much broke. As the battery charging part of the fone is all bent and coming out the fone and it refuses to charge. We were gona switch anyway since my contract is up and nextel wasn't offering us any good deals so family share w/ the rents ;p. We might switch back in 1-2 years and see how htings are going w/ nextel. Overall the fones are pretty sturdy.

The V60s suck when it comes to their antennas. I must have gone through 5 of them. They are so flimsy and can snap off very easily. When my current antenna goes, which will be soon, I'm probably going with Samsung. Their antenna design is much better.
