bah. keep loseing network connection.

waggy

No Lifer
called them up and they keep rebooting something saying i am not getting an IP

any idea why? the lady on the phone blamed my router saying it is old (got it 8 months ago).

it was fine until tuesday. i didn't change a setting on anything either.

bah so damn annoying. hate to buy a new router when thats not the problem.

ohwell. it is a cheaper dlink

Are you not getting/keeping your WAN IP (IP to the world) or are your local machines not getting/keeping their LAN IPs from the router?

The fact that it was fine at one point points to either:

The router went bad/lost it's configuration (it's either busted or just needs to be reconfigured)

Or the more likely culprit; your ISP did something either at the back end or local in your neighborhood that is affecting your connection.

I experienced the latter 2x in San Antonio when the local cable ISP would "execute upgrades" in the neighborhood. It always screwed things up bad resulting in massive packet loss...and DROPPED connections.

i am not keeping the IP to the world.

i can still connect to other computers in the house etc.just NONE of them can connct the outside world (no atot for me!).

i have talked to 3 people one blamed my router. the 2 others just did somehting on there end saying i was not pulling a IP and it was working.

If your router isn't pulling an IP from the ISP there's a good chance that the MAC address of the modem has become disassociated from their domain/network. Call back and ask them if they have the MAC of your router...make sure you know what it is before you call. 😉 It's printed on the modem itself somewhere.

hmm it just went out yet again.

figured i run it straight to my machine and skip the router. still wouldnt work.

so i called. the guy said i had 12000 connections! wtf!

he rebooted it and i am back on. he is going to call in a few hours to see if it crashes again.

he said having thatmany connections is what was doing it.

sigh i hate this.

heh ok figured it is NOT the router.

called the network place again. he said it was my net card. ok great. except it is NOT happening on my wife's computer. my laptop etc.

the guy told me to go get another computer to try. go get the laptop again.

ok great. while booting the laptop eh reboots whatever he has. my machine starts working. he says see now you are getting a ip. i told yeah but i have yet to put it in the laptop.

he says ohh..

he said i had a virus or something on my machine. ok great. i have run 3 virus checks. hijack this, and adaware etc. nothing.

soo any ideas?
