BAH! I think my processor is overheating

My computer has started just locking up every once in a while. It mostly happens at night when the door to my room is closed so the heat from the thing just builds up and makes my room feel like a sauna. I thought it was just windows being stupid, so I booted into linux, and I still see it happen when doing something like a big compile.

stupid free AthlonXP 1800+ (I won it at one of those Athlon early morning give away things like 3 years ago) Maybe it's time for a new PC.

Happens to me once in a while. UT2k4 loads maps like mad... the machine just shuts off and begins making a beep from the mobo. Barton 2800+ non o/c'd. I give it a few minutes to chill and pop it back on.

Have you actually cleaned out the HSF in the past three years? I'll bet it's a SOLID hunk of dust. :roll:

The fins on my SLK900 started getting clogged after only two months. A vacuuming session later, and CPU idle temps dropped 3C.

Wish I knew... gotta figure out a way to read the sensors. I will install lm-sensors and maybe gkrellm once I let it cool off for a bit.
