Am I the only one? I was totally freaked on the psycho-fast action of Quake 2's multiplayer and I did get pretty badass at it in the end....then everyone fled to play CS which is slow and complicated.....

And good old Quake.....fastest action in the world. Pick up Rocket Launcher, pick of Quad, blast away and blow everything to chunks :D I think both Quake and Quake 2 are some of the best 3d action multiplayer games because they're so FAST.

I feel your pain. I like Quake too, just shoot everything! I haven't played CS (gasp :Q), but from the screen shots, it looks like Rainbox Six and I found that it took too much thinking and patience.

Now if I could find a 'demo' version of CS, I might give it a try.

Yeah, Quake1 was the first real online 3d shoot em up, I miss ctf in Quake1.

The best to describe how good peopel were there is when there are like 6 people in a base, and then three of them look at each other and then head for the other base, no talk just working like a single mind. Then we had real players, there are very few playing now.

Yeah, me too. My favorite multiplayer mode has always been straight FFA deathmatch, and quake has always been (IMO, of course) the best at those.

I actually enjoy Quake3 more than I did Quake2 and Quake, though, even though I may have been better at Quake2 than I am at Quake3. Quake3 has a looser feel than Quake2 did, but it's not like original quake, where I felt a little out of control. Maybe that was because everyone was so much better than I was, though :)

Quake 1 was a blast, we used to play for hours on end. Our personal favorite map was UltraV by a long shot.

naaa, I much prefer the tactical basis of CS to the mindless blasting you get in Quake games. Just my view :)

Q2 CTF still has a lot of players active. It gives you strategy, killing, AND fast action. I have tried Half-Life TFC but was bored to tears by how slow everyone moves.

I'll be the last person playing Q2 and will turn off the lights when you all are gone.

Yeah, I miss the days when my buddy would dial into my computer w/his 28.8 modem and we would deathmatch. I loaded it up the other day and have to say, now that I've been spoiled with quake 3 the graphics are not so hot. But the one thing Quake will have that will always kick ass is the crazy monsters! I mean c'mon Ogre, Shambler don't get much better than that!

Bah Quake2. Quake1...now there's a real game. I'll never forget all my sleepless nights playing Netquake and then later on Quakeworld when it came out. Even when I had a P100 and 16MB ram with no 3d accelerator and had to shrink the window down ALL the way to play online on my 33.6 modem, I would still play..for hours on end! I remember staying up to 4am or 5am on school nights playing TeamFortress...man. It is the funnest game ever created and some people still play it. It's pretty fun when you can get 1200fps in timerefreshes too :) The people who do still play Quake are all very skilled and I think the majority of servers left out there run Clan Arena. Any of you who play Q2, or anything in HL, or even Quake3, install quake and hop on one of the few servers left and have your ass HANDED to you.

Well, you just stirred something in me and now I gotta go find Quake, install it, and hop on some QuakeWorld servers. Damn you!!! ;)

ahhhhh, memories....all of you CS'ers and TFC'ers don't know what real online play should be like, sorry to say.:)

well I did it with one other guy. I'm not talking about LAN...remember good old modem games where you actually dialed into the other guy's computer? This was before most people even had the internet. :D

My friend and I did this a ton with Doom and Doom 2. 1 on 1 deathmatch was pretty lame, so we spent the bulk of our playing romping through the levels on CO-OP. It wasnt too hard though considering we could both probably do it solo on ultra-violence and nightmare :)

I really really loved Quake. The game rocked, and IMHO it had by far the best community in an online game. EVERYONE played it, and there were tons of mods made for it. Pretty much every mod that is played now got its start from Quake 1. Plus it was one of the first big online games, so it had the "first time" mystique with it also. It was just plain fantastic.

Now I suck at hyper fast 3D shooters though, and prefer Rainbox Six or Delta Force :p

Quake 2 is still my favorite, ctf is fun, so is deathmatching with the lithium mod, but my personal favorite is Quake 2 Digital Paint Paintball Mod Wow thats a fun game, it takes a few matches to get used to the physics of the balls *heh* but once you do its awesome!

Quake will always go down as the best game ever. My freshman year of college, almost my whole dorm floor installed it and we would have the best deathmatch games ever. I got the name stonythug from these games. When team fortress came out, that was it. My grades dropped and sleep became something I could remember, but hadn't experienced in a while. No matter how good the graphics get, I doubt any game will ever provide me as much enjoyment as quake deathmatch and team fortress. Now Team Fortress Classic is the only game I play, because it's the only one that seems similar at all to the old style quake. You still just run around and kill everything(I never go for the flag).

Hmm I never played quake or quake2. Back in my early gaming days(with my p166) I played starcraft like there was no tomorrow and missed out on all the fps fun ;(.

Hahah, CS takes no skill whatsoever. It's basically team deathmatch in UT or Q3 except you use fairly realistic LOOKING guns (they don't act realistic though) and it's terrorists vs. counter terrorists. It's an fps with a Rainbow Six/Rogue Spear wanna-be exterior.

Only go with the best...Rogue Spear. :)

I would hope they're skilled if they've been playing the game for the past 4 years. ;)

The original Quake is still, IMHO, the BEST game ever for Rocket Jumping. Quake 2 was "ok" but Quake 3 has so many "fake" surfaces that is SUX for Rocket Jumping.

My greatest addiction (after my way back, original addiction to Wolfenstien and then to Modem play with Doom) was to Quake 2 with the Weapons of Destruction Mod. At one point on CLQ (Champion League Quake) I was ranked #17 in the world.. but then my wife STRONGLY recommended I think about getting a life! ;)

I'm resisting the urge to buy any new games at all since Q3. I've got SOOOO many project that have gone undone that I'm actually having to act like an addict in order to keep my priorities right. :(
