Yesterday, I managed to break my titanium frames...again.
Did it about 2 years ago, just at the start of the fall semester.
The frames are from Costco, so I thought...no problem, go buy another pair of frames, stick the lenses in...fixed.
Of course, being Costco...the frames were no longer available, so I found a local eyeglass repair shop that could weld them. Took about a week and cost $50, plus the owner "loaned" me a pair of frames that almost fit the lenses. (close enough, but not perfectly.)
Fast forward to yesterday. I was getting ready for a doctor appointment, washed the glasses in the sink, and when I toweled them dry...snap. Broke at the weld.
Fortunately, I had ordered a new pair of glasses on Wednesday, but they won't be ready for 10-14 days..so, unless someone has a decent suggestion for temporarily repairing titanium half-frames...I'm stuck with glasses held together with a piece of wire from a twist-tie.
I have some epoxy similar to JB Weld, but in my experience, it's not going to hold. I tried crazy glue and a liquid epoxy the last time...with failing results.
I can "get by" with a pair of glasses that are 8+ years old...but can barely see with them. (the bifocal portion is almost as strong as my "normal distance" portion of my new prescription.
Sux.
