So just curious.. When Woot has a Bag of Crap up for sale, do you rush and try to get one before they sell out on the hope that youget something decent, or do you run away because you've gotten them before and they really have been crap and not worth the $8?

I've gotten a couple and they've each had a couple decent items and a couple that went right in the trash/donate pile. But I still buy one every chance I get just for the fun of it.

GearXS has a mystery box they're selling right now too, almost went for it but with my luck it would be an assload of pens and crap...and for $25 or $40 I just couldn't pull the trigger for that:\

the only time i've gotten one they sent me like 8 proprietary USB cables from some old sandisk mp3 player. I got a few other items that were slightly more useful, but I didn't understand why they would even bother to send me those stupid cables. Its extremely unlikely that a random person would even own one of those mp3 players, and even if they did, they most likely wouldn't need an extra, let alone 8 extra usb cables.

If I wish to play the lottery I'll buy a powerball ticket. At least that way the prize is guaranteed to be something I want.

All the stories of laptops and TVs were probably fake to drive more sales.

A guy I work with has gotten about 3 of them. Every time they were full of worthless crap that I wouldn't want.

I remember hearing about bags of crap when woot was a pretty new site. They were usually pretty good for the price. From the forum posts I read back then, it seemed most people got at least their money's worth, oftentimes more.

I guess now that woot is a pretty successful site they have to make money somehow and they do that by getting people to buy bags of worthless items.

Nope. Guy at work got a 32" LCD back in 2007. I watched him order it and saw the TV, it was delivered to work. 100% real.

You need a "I try to get one anyway, but the damn transaction timed out the last dozen times I tried. Woot's servers suck!" poll option.

Yeah, I know it's a bit long.

And they do it with such honesty, it's shocking it continues to work.

"You *might* get something, but honestly, come on... we're telling you up front, it's pretty much guaranteed you're getting a bag of crap... and just short of literally!

:awe:

I'd never go out of my way for one but I did happen to get one a few years ago. It was worth the money but not much more (a couple of decent DVDs, some video game action figures that the kids were at least content with, and a pink bag that went into the closet and I just threw away last week).

Probably the best thing I got was 4 speakers that attach to the bottom of an iPad. Kind of look like giant legos. Gave them away as gifts and everyone loved the. Also did get a tiny duffle bag that I sometimes use to run to the Y.

But I'm a sucker so I get one every chance I get.
And for any woot-offs, be sure to use www.wooters.us as they have a BOC Auto Buy feature. As soon as the BOC comes up, it plays a loud sound and automatically clicks to buy it for you. You just have to plug in your CC security number and hope for the best.

I love the Bag O'Crap. It's like the lottery, except unlike the state, you actually get something for your money. It may not be a great something, but it beats a blank.

Your poll question and answers does not match your OP question and answers.

I voted that I try to get them. I have been successful once and did not get the 42" LCD :(

I've gotten it twice. The first time I received one of those robot toys that retailed for about $300 at the time. Played with it a bit and then gifted it to a friend.

Second time wasn't memorable.
