I do agree whatever style they use is incredibly dumb. I grew up with that generation (...proudly) so it's not like I've just seen it yesterday. I can't believe kids are still doing it. Even some my age in their 20's.

I can agree...kids over the last 10 years have become more and more like criminals and get encouraged by their parents to be like that. Almost all the exclusive places here that used to have proms held have no longer catered to any high schools due to the kids trashing the places mostly tagging stuff and stealing items or vandalizing them. It's so stupid. I am not about following the letter of the law, I like to have fun, but I am not going out damaging other's property or being totally offensive to those around me.

Why has not the baggy pants fad expired yet? There's no accounting for taste but come on, they are called fashion trends for a reason; they are expected to change. Unless I missed something and they did fall out of fashion and are now considered retro cool? Personally, once fashion becomes fussy (i.e. requires constant attention and/or maintenance and/or impedes mobility) it's a bit too flamboyant for me. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Flamboyant is what drives fashion. Baggy pants is a thug style, not really fashion.

They come from a deliberate decision and require constant attention -a la primping and preening to some degree even if the effect is quite the opposite of what would be expected from such. In that way it is reminiscent of the rather mainstream fashion of the 1980's for a mock distressed look. So while it may neither be haute fashion nor the prevailing custom, they are apparently at least fashion for the thugesque subculture. I suppose the oversized clothing in general comes from the prevalence of hand-me-downs for poor children. But the really queer thing is the characteristic presenting of the rump to other males which, beyond a cheeky flash would be associated with submissive behavior so does not conform with expected posturing.

Your flamboyancy seems to be with your words though. Roget's may have an opening for you.

I would say today it's equally hostile. I learned to tone down my talk for today's listener. Esp. here where the vagabond grammer nazi will lay into a huge post only to attack a typo.
