Hi, Recently the northbridge fan went out on my gigabyte socket a mother board. I am running windows xp sp2, with a amd xp 2400, gigabyte mb (forgot the model number), 512 kingston value ram, everything running stock, with a thermaltake 430 watt ps. Since the northbridge fan went out, i installed a fanless heatsink that I had canabalized off a old asus socket a mother board. The problem that I have been encountering is that when I do something that is graphics intensive, IE gaming (mainly HL DOD) the computer freaks out, and I see a checker box pattern just flood over the screen and it is locked up. I have ran prime95 for several lengthy periods of time. The temps are 32 idle, 49 after 4 hours of prime95 49c. All within threshold limits. I cant figure out why, the computer freaks out and locks up, only after games. I can do everything else. The gfx card is a 5900, and its temps do not pass 50c. I think it might be a problem with the northbridge, either got burned up when the old fan went out, or that the new hs doesnt do the job that it needs. Any help at all would be fantastic. Thanks!!

It would be nice if you could attach a small fan to the northbridge or get some cool air blowing across it to see if that improves your situation. That will at least help you isolate the problem.
