badflash, help

i had a badflash, now my m/b doesn't boot anymore. how can i restore my bios chip any help????

Check your manual, you might still be able to do an "in the blind" bootblock flash.

if you know someone with your m/board then you can try hotflashing otherwise you'll be looking for a new bios chip! :frown:

TO hotflash you will need another same make and model working MoBo. Better to have the MoBo out of cabinet. Before starting MoBo keep BIOS chip loose enough to pry out using only fingers when MoBo has booted (to avoid a short ciruit you cannot use any metal tool when the system is running) Insert only display card and connect only floppy drive to this MoBo. Have ready a Boot floppy with BIOS flash software and new BIOS.

OK now with new MoBo booted and running gently with fingers remove BIOS chip and insert defective one -- now run flash program and if flash sucessful than the chip should work fine.

Please take all precautions of antistatic protection and be CAREFULL at time of removing and inserting BIOS chips when system is running. I have done this procedure 4 times and have not had a problem yet.

I must add that once I had a bad ASUS P2BF BIOS flash and could not find another same MoBo so I took out my kids ASUS T2P4 MoBo and sucessfully flashed the BIOS in it. I think it is important that both MoBo's use the same flash utility to have a sucessful hotflash.

I may be totally wrong here, but can't you use an ISA video card to boot a mobo with a defective BIOS? I swear I read that somewhere, but who knows.

I had the same problem before, your current bios chipset contains no bios rite now (i think), and you can either get elctronburner to restore the bios or you can simply calle your momo company and purchase a new bios chipset , it is only 10 dallors and the size of it is really small, about the size of a penny , and 1.3 cm wide.

you are confusing trying to reflash an AGP videocard after a bad flash with flashing your m/board bios!

There have been threads about how to do a flash from a floppy, without video (an ISA adapter would give you video, but it is not needed). Search for them.

to boot from a badflash, provide that the bootblock is intact (usually), you'll need to boot the computer from your floppy drive, and an ISA video card. just attach those 2 (and only those 2 for the sake of simplicity), and turn on the computer. of course you'll need to put in a boot disk in the floppy (duh!)

otherwise you'll need to do the hotswap trick from another identicle MoBo.

I've done both a few times.. I prefer the floppy method. you only do the hotswap method if the bootblock is destroyed as well.
