Time for a new phone, because my battery lasts ~1 day if that, and it is too fat for my pocket now, and I wouldn't mind having a camera phone, and I would like better net access.

Things I want:
- folding phone, that is thin
- camera
- decent net access (access to pop mail and/or webbrowsing)
- record your own ringer (saw it on a friend's phone, seemed cool)
- Verizon capable
- Not $200+

Thanks!

From my experience... that's the toughest one of them all. For me, verizon has the best service... unfortunately they have the worst phones.

Even the phones that Verizon do get they cripple and limit the features. I couldn't even guess why they do this but they do.

VX6000 .. pretty basic, but a nice sturdy phone with camera. I'm sure they've replaced it with a newer model by now.

maybe not the most badass.. but its what i have and i'm very satisfied

VX6100.

I think the VX6000 is the best phone Verizon's ever offered ever. The 6100 isn't as good. VX7000 is garbage.

For that reason, I moved on to T-Mobile because their service was cheaper, my motorla v600 (best phone ever) was free + another $50 rebate.

VX6100 is what I got. It has the best features, but the clincher is the speakerphone, which vx7000 doesn't have. I got it free with 2 year contract renewal.
But it does not have an mp3 ringtone, so if you really want that for whatever reason, then you should not get it. I think having speakerphone is more important than that gimmick.

Buy an unlocked new Motorola V525 off ebay. Like this one for example:

Motorola V525

Network GSM 850 / GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900 ( Quad Band)

Build-in digital VGA camera
- Java
- Bluetooth
- WAP 2.0
- xHTML browser
- Organizer
- Calculator
- T9 (iTAP)
- Voice memo/dial

I had one but just upgraded to the V600 model.

Was an excellent phone

You do know that Verizon uses CDMA right?

I have the Moto V710 and am somewhat happy with it. It is a clamshell, has a 1.3mp cameraphone, can take video, has bluetooth, speakerphone, external color screen, lasts about 3 days without needing a charge.

The only complaint I have is that it drops calls sometimes.

You can probably get it under $200 with a deal.

VX6000 here too.... it's been a good phone so far. I've had it for about 5 months now and have been pleased with it. The web stuff is pretty basic and is text based, but it does ok.

VX 4600... i like it cause it's simple. heh. no, doesn't help you really... but there are so few simple phones lately... my friend can't have a phone w/ a camera (works under the DOD), sucks for him to not be able to get a decent phone. particularlly flip ones.

I think Verizon has replaced the VX6000 with VX6100.
It has speakerphone and flash. Not sure how voice dialing works on 6000, but on 6100 you don't have to preprogram it. You just enter text names, and the phone recognizes them.
Also, 6100 has analog roaming, which I think 6000 doesn't have.

No. I didn't. Does that mean you can't use unlocked phones if you're a Verizon customer then ?

I'd like to know as my wife is on verizon and uses the VX3200 I believe.

Miss read the OP's post .. sorry bout that ....

That VX6100 looks pretty nice ... checked on ebay and a few were selling for about $220 + shipping.

Pretty much EVERY CDMA phone sold meets all your criteria except for the camera. They don't all officially support recording your own ringers, but the Qualcomm CDMA chipset supports it transparently nonetheless. Basically you convert your audio clip to a 16kbps mono, 16kHz mp3, rename the file to give it a .mid extension, and upload it to your phone with Bitpim or similar utility.

You can also use the BREW SDK to convert your audio clips to officially supported .qcp files (or just create them using the phones mic by using the voice memo feature), but these are bugged at least on my VX4400 and they play out of the normal speaker (even as ringers), not the louder ringtone speaker. The mp3s play through the ringer speaker and can be quite loud.

My cousin has the VX7000 and he loves it. I played around with it and it seems pretty nice. Why is it junk? Does it have a lot of problems with quality?

I have a vx7000, its ok, nothing really special about it.

Truth be told, I miss the v600 I had on Tmobile, but the vx7000 meets everything you listed except for perhaps size (thats more opinion though), and I'm not sure about the pop-mail access. Web 2.0 is supported though.
